Clausen's development?

Just a question I was pondering as I was riding home after the loss

Why start Clausen this season if Fox is a lame duck coach? Doesn't it do more harm to his development as a QB if he learns this system, and then the new coach comes in and he has to re-learn everything?

If that's the case, then is Fox in jeopardy of losing his job mid-season? (I"m not sure how that would work monetarilly, and if Richardson would have to pay out a large chunk of his contract, then that won't happen).

I'm guessing getting him playing time will be good for him in terms of getting him used to the speed of the NFL, but is it at the risk of setting him farther back when the new coach comes in?

Also, I can't think of a worse time or team to start a rookie QB on than this one. From an age stand point, Jimmy is now the leader of a team whose average age is near 25. It will be interesting to see how this plays out throughout this season and next.

    • Horrible argument in comparison to the potential Edge Rusher picks who have exactly 0 high level successful years statistically. Looking at you Walker, Williams, and Shemar. That said all on the table I probably go Walker over Warren, but the paper don’t look so good.. 🤷‍♂️
    • I think it’s this pick 5-15ish stretch that the tough spot. There’s just no high end first rounders you typically see at our spot.  There’s a few blue chippers and then the rest are mid to late firsts at best.  It’s also why I don’t expect a trade down, but one can dream. But it won’t be much capital gained in this draft.
    • Is he worth it? Maybe. I know the team is seriously interested in him or they wouldn't have met with him 3 times. He's the best safety in this draft and 1 of only 2 safties that are day 1 worthy picks.  The way I see it is that the team has the option of taking a player at a position that is a huge value to draft. That's edge, tackle, qb or wide receiver. Ask yourself who in this class of day 1 picks could benefit the Panthers the most to draft. Now look at the visits and see what positions they have put the most time in day 1 players. Two things stand out to me. They are focusing on defense and it's OLB and a safety. I think it comes down to 3 players and they are Walker, Stewart and Emmanwori. Everyone else is smoke and mirrors.
