Is your opinion of Mr. Richardson starting to change?

True but it just isnt this year. Last year we didnt pick up much in free Agency. The last time we made a splash was Kemo/Lucas.

Wasn't much around honestly.

Only person off the top of my head I would have wanted in past couple season is Boldin.

It really sucks right now because are team is crap, but look at it this way. Let's just pretend that we hit a home run with Jimmy Clausen. Let's pretend that in a few years from now he's an upper-tier QB in this league. We will have a young team that has played together for a while, and after the new CBA we will have like $50MM in cap space or something ridiculous. I'm talking Madden franchise ridiculous. That will allow the team to spend money on some good talent (which I personally believe there will be a huge pool of after the new CBA), and a lot of depth, which is crucial because the Panthers are somehow the frailest team in the NFL.

Let's just hope that whoever owns the team then (would never wish death or harm on JR, but let's be realistic, the life expectancy of heart transplant recipients isn't very long), be it one guy or an investment group, is willing to put money into a good on field product.

By that time we will have been awful for enough years that the bandwagon guys from our good run (03-08) will be long gone. So there will be more elbow room for the rest of us.

It's actions like that which drive me crazy.... he should sell the team to someone who is passionate about the area and franchise and go work side by side with Goodell as he is more interested in NFL business matters.

this.

He's always been an average owner to me, but now I look at him as one of the worst. I cant believe what he's doing to all those players in that locker room that respect him so. People bring up that he's setting us up for the future. The way its looking, I really think we're going to lose the great core of players(Beason, Williams, Kalil, etc) that this FO has been saying its trying to build around. I dont think Smitty will be here too much longer. I dont blame them. Who would play for an owner who obviously cares more about the NFL than his own team and fans.

It's hard looking at the product that Mr Richardson has assembled out their this year. I appreciate him for bringing football to the Carolinas, but I think its time for a new owner

I spent $29.50 on a new Panthers hat Friday.

Bottom line, the Panthers are my team. I'm going to the games. I can yell my ass off in frustration at the games. Yes, from a fans perspective, I'm pissed about how Jerry is handling this deal. But you know what? Going down to the stadium yesterday at 9:30am, setting up shop and tailgating, watching an NFL game, talking poo to Bengals idiots yelling "who dey!" like a bunch of inbred retards, and driving home bitching about the results made for an awesome Sunday.

Guess I'm the type of guy that keeps Jerry resting easy in his bed at night during this pathetic season.

There's some pretty good posts in here, but the rest are homer or complete hate/tard posts.

While JR isn't the worst GM in the league, not close, he shouldn't get all these homers and he shouldn't get so much hate either.

I agree with the posters who haven't liked the direction for some years now. The truth is, JR is the head guy, so all those years we had horrible/bland play-calling with Fox, a bad/diminishing QB in Jake, and not getting Smith #2 help, rolls up to HIM. He should have did things differently.

I think we have to wait a little bit to see how this whole thing pans out, but right now it's pretty wrong to raise ticket prices on PSL owners while putting an inferior product on the field. That IS on Jerry. I think he's more about the money nowadays than winning, IMO. I think since the Super Bowl he started liking the revenue a lot. The no logo in the middle of the field is bad too and shows his character. The CBA stuff shows the more greedy side of him also.

Then the team cuts people we shouldn't. Hoover was a bad, bad cut and our running issues right now have something to do with that. We let some O-line depth go too. Jake should have been benched but if we were paying him anyway, we may as well kept him around. Should have resigned Moose for vet minimum, he would be a good mentor and could still be a decent #3 WR out there. The fact JR cut Hoover/Moose, when they were going to be so cheap, just shows how much he cares about money.

So unless he comes out the next "playable" year and gets us some good FA pickups, and some better coaches with a new philosophy, he's going to lose a lot of fans. We aren't a seasoned franchise, if we aren't winning, people will forget quick.

Also, yes respect him for bringing the Panthers here, but he doesn't do much in the community either it doesn't seem. The Bobcats have done more than I ever remember the Panthers doing. I'm sorry, he just seems like a money man now, but I don't want him dead, and I believe he should get another chance when/if we play again after this season to get us in the right direction.

In the end though, Smith may want to leave and I wouldn't blame him. In a way, I think we should trade him, we're wasting him. We may have pissed players off and may not be able to sign them when it counts too. Guys like Beason, etc, that want to win.

Well, this is the beginning of year and there are plenty of young, tough and hungry players out there to build with. I don't know what Smith thinks right now about his future with the Panthers, but I'm sure he recognizes what he means to his fellow teammates. Beason is a newly minted leader of a young defense. They have special players there and are VERY young. It's a great opportunity and I hope it stays together under Meeks. I like the philosophy if you can keep the roster of players you need. Pay Beason...it's an easy decision.

Suggesting that trading Smith might be a good idea instead of "wasting" him, or implying that winners don't want to play here after a few tumultuous seasons is incredibly short-sighted, and puts this all in perspective in the end. There has been plenty of despair to go around in the NFL in the past 15 years. Sorry folks, but there will be no instant transformation into the perennial losers club. We just haven't been there and, more importantly, we don't seem to be moving in that direction anyway. Look on the bright side, we didn't trade for McNabb, Haynesworth and D'Angelo Hall for a combined bazillion dollars.
