The Bengals' plan for Clausen

Upon Jimmy Clausen being named starting QB for the Carolina Panthers as they get set to face the Cincinnati Bengals, we opined that Bengals CBs Johnathan Joseph and Leon Hall would be licking their chops, waiting for errant passes to come their way Sunday.

As we're now closer to kickoff, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com has added some additional analysis of how the Bengals might welcome Clausen to the league. "If the Bengals don't blitz the living daylights out of Clausen," Hobson writes, "they'll at least give him different looks and try to bait him into some throws."

To counteract this, the Panthers may use additional blockers and roll Clausen out in order to give him a little more leeway. It's also very likely that the Panthers will rely heavily on the ground game to keep Clausen out of third-and-long situations, where he could try and force matters.

I hope they leave the WRs in single coverage, we roll out running backs, and Clausen checks down a lot if they want to blitz all day.

I read an article about how Mike Zimmer (the bengals defensive coordinator) had prepped his defense with complex packages agaisnt the Patriots.

This strategy was a failure in his mind and the stat book.

The following week against Baltimore they dumbed down their coverages for Ravens so the players could just rely on speed and not think too much.

That being said I see its more likely they try and blitz the piss outta Jimmy

while doubling up on smith. If they go that route then Gettis,Lafell,Rosario,and King should have the ball thrown their way quite a bit...lets hope they have their sticky gloves on today
