Are you talking about those same people who cleared him to "play" only to have him tear it again, because he was backpedaling? Seriously, there is a reason why people with torn ACL's arent supposed to jump back into action right away.

You're right, his ACL was so weak and brittle that it would tear at the slightest stress, and the medical staff just decided to accept the risk and let him go.

....

No. They would not have cleared him for activity unless they were confident that it was stable enough to go. I'm sorry but I will trust the training staff's judgment over some interwebs people's any day. The second tear was a freak accident. It wasn't a product of him not being ready. In fact most ACL tears are freak accidents--I know people with extremely strong and flexible legs who have torn their ACL's just changing directions. There's nothing you can do to prevent a freak accident.

And theres nothing you can do to change the minds of people who used common sense and said "Hmmmmm, coming back pretty early, seems kinda risky." And then, he gets hurt backpedaling and confirms all of our suspicions.. How many people do you hear of tearing their ACL backpedaling, before they ever had torn it? None. You cant say him coming back early was not a reason for this "freak accident".

I'm not taking sides in this, but just wanted to point out that he wasn't just backpedaling. He was flipping his hips which required him to plant his foot and switch directions on it. That's how a lot of ACL's get torn. I'm starting to learn this stuff since I tore my ACL as well as my meniscus when planting my leg right before making a tackle in practice on tuesday.
