I've never bought into the argument that they'd tank this season, and still don't.

They took advantage of an uncapped year to set themselves up for the long run, for certain. That doesn't mean they aren't also trying to win this season.

Marshall's been bad so far. If he gets worse, I could see looking at a guy like Mike McKenzie later in the season.

(they'd need to ensure he was healthy though, and that's a pretty big "if")

agreed. the two aren't mutually exclusive. switching from moore to clausen would be just one sign they care about this year.

Yep.

It's not like Moore is ancient. And it's well-known thatt he team would have preferred not to have to throw Clausen into the fire too early.

So if they really didn't care about this season, why bench Moore and risk Clausen?

LOL, what a clueless baffoon. I so want to scream in his face right now:

HEY MARTY! IF YOUR RECEIVERS ARE GOOD, AND CAN GET SEPARATION QUICKLY, YOUR QB CAN CHECKDOWN IF THERE IS PRESSURE!

IF YOUR RECEIVERS SUCK, AND COVERAGE IS PAINTED ALL OVER THEM, THE D-LINE WILL GET TO THE QB.

God damn I can't wait for the day that Hurney is sent down the road. He knows less about the game than my 6 year old nephew. FCUK!

finally, someone gets it.. although change Hurney for Fox.. although I have my questions on Hurney..

If the Panthers continue to do what they did last Sunday, that stadium will be a ghost town.

Reality is players get played millions to play and we spend hundreds to thousands in a very tough economy to watch them.

Sunday, was an abysmal an effort as I have ever seen from a pro team save perhaps the Lions during the Millen years.

That team was totally flat from beginning to end, for their home opener.

It that is the youth movement, then, Hurney and JR can keep it, and they can refund some of my PSL money for having to watch it.

The Garner High School Trojans could have beaten the Panthers last weekend and been more entertaining doing it.

ahhhhhh, a Garner High reference.. classic. (an alumni of said HS.. yes, I said alumni.. lol)

-"passing game is going to improve each week" "finding consistency at quarterback decision"- sounds like Hurney is sold on Clausen to me; plus remember how giddy he was when we drafted him. It was like a kid in a free candy store. He can't flat out say it at this point, because it would shatter Moore but I definitely sense that

-Can't argue with veteran receiver comment and all of their receivers aren't long-term fixes (outside Jackson and Brandon Marshall but they are terrible fits here)

-"Julius situation transcends money, we offered two contracts to make him the highest defensive player" hahahaha coming from Hurney that's as close to a slight as your going to get

-Claiming the money decisions reside solely on him not on J-Rich. Don't know if I exactly agree with that, but that speaks volumes about Hurney's loyalty to Richardson

-He is most certainly right in the fact that he can't let fans influence his decisions. As much as we love to gripe there is clearly a reason we are not GM's and he is. Sticking to your guns may burn you in the short run, but if your good at what you do (Which he is no doubt) you'll reap the benefits down the road; if they always listened to fans we might have Jason Campbell as our quarterback, Brandon Marshall as a receiver, and traded away Deangelo or something

-Armanti- very talented, very explosive (we shall see); Try to get as many good players to fit what you do (ie run the ball)-- hinting at wildcat idk just a possibility// or maybe they think he is the next Smitty haha

-Trade Running back- NO, I doubt they are just going to try and let Deangelo walk. Heck we tried to resign Peppers and he didn't even want to be here. Deangelo likes Carolina. I'm pretty confident we will at least try

-Rebuilding- NO; same issues as last year- very true.

-Confidence and Momentum are huge in this game. VERY True. Look at the Saints, from last to Champs. Once they got confidence and swag they blew people out. I totally agree

FINALLY- you have to respect Hurney for going out there, putting his neck out and saying it like it is. That's exactly why I like the Panthers. Not because we have a diva like Rex Ryan, but we have guys that stick by their values and want to win bad-just don't drop f-bombs on TV to broadcast that

bench him b/c it lets the youth get reps. Which is all this season is really about. Call this season what you want....but it was more about getting the young guys we want to win with post Fox on the field and expeirenced.

Moore went 6-2 as a starter entering this year....and showed lots of promise. Had one bad game and got a concussion. Fox then broke his so called rule and started Moore the next game and now he is done. Moore wasn't given a chance. You don't bench a QB that young off 6 bad quarters with a concussion mixed in ......and call that a fair shot. Not with all the huge blunders the rest of the team has made and the poor playcalling that assited w/ those losses.

Nothing points to Fox being in control. Why would Fox announce Jimmy as the starter on Monday when the smart move if you were going to play him would be to let the Bengals prepare for Moore.....which they would have.

I have no trouble believing Richardson allows Hurney full control of the purse strings.

Mark Richardson is gone, and Danny Morrison is an NFL newbie whose job description mainly covers the business and stadium side of things.

For all intents and purposes, Hurney is god of all football decisions at BOA right now.

In order to allow the Bengals to have a competitive advantage, I guess

Fox is doing a lot of things differently this year. And this being his "resume' year" whether it be for an extension or a new job, that's not surprising.

The suggestion that he'd deliberately tank, or agree to the team tanking, his contract year is crazy.

Yeah just like all the other GMs are doing.

Oh wait, teams like the Jets who actually want to make the playoffs have signed their young talent and even did for Revis what Richardson should do for Beason. Just like San Francisco extended Willis.

Nevermind.................

the CBA is an excuse fed to us that some fans are willing to believe.. signing 1 or 2 players who will be with the team for years will not affect any team when the new CBA comes out..

It actually is a valid philosophy, and not just at that position.

Some team go out and throw money at whoever just had a big year. Others try to build through the draft and think preemptively.

May not be popular with fans, but it can work if you do it right.

Case in point.

it's a great philosophy.. it's just a bad one if you stay stubborn w the philosophy at a position you have failed to succeed at drafting for almost a decade... when you could have filled a true #1 role, Smitty #1b or 2, and the 3 draft picks could have acclimated themselves just as quickly and stepped up in a bigger role in their 2nd and 3rd year...

Smitty doesn't have #1 status like he used too.. yes, he's a beast and he's still Smitty, but we have to start transitioning now.. it's called preparation.. something the Panthers have yet to show...

(and I'm not saying Smitty can't be a #1.. but he's not in '05 form either.. we have to prepare and thinking the draft this year is going to be much different from years past is burying one's head in the sand more than anything.. Yes, I hope I'm wrong.. but you prepare in a smart fashion, not in a gambling fashion)

I haven't seen Fox do anything different. I see him trotting out his same flawed approach and sticking with his old forumula despite his roster saying he needs to change things up.

Same old plays. Same problems on offense. Going for it in 4th down when that is the logical move ain't bold and different.

If it was all about youth, why risk hurting/stunting your youthfull QB who your team would likley be based around, early in the season with all the problems that are occuring?

If they really wanted Clausen in, they would have made him a starter since day one.

Clasuen needs reps. Might as well let him start learning how to be an NFL QB now....instead of later. Hopefully post Fox they let the new coach make offseason moves to fix holes and get back into a win now mode. With rookie QBs you just have to give them time to become NFL QBs.....sure, they can win at times but that isn't the norm to be expected. This is a perfect year to let him take some lumps.

They pratctically did ....he replaced Moore in week 2.
