College highlights to show what a quarterback can do in the NFl. Ridiculous. All you have to do is watch how receivers get free releases off the line or are often so wide open that the defender isn't even in the picture to see that expecting even close to similar results ain't going to happen.

That isn't close to what that video does. That is a highlight real of perhaps his best game in college. That hardly qualifies as film or scouting. Most folks want to know how he does when things aren't going well or when there are problems not a highlights reel. And the preseason is a better indicator right now since we aren't making a decision to draft him but discussing how he will play against a NFL opponent

Not even close. It is people like you who would walk behind him up his butt hoping he passes gas so you can take in the sweet aroma that think that any criticism is being hateful.

I have every hope for him and want him to do well but the hype nationally and here on this website is ridiculous. My usual note is setting reasonable expectations and that is what I do. Find a quote anywhere where I have bashed him or have no hope for him.

If you followed my posts then you would know that I was not first to jump on Moore's bandwagon and did so when he showed he could get the job done last year. I also said Sunday to give Clausen a start this week to see what he can do.

Am I on Clausen's bandwagon? Is there any other one at this point? Do I think he will be great this Sunday? Actually I don't. But it won't be all his fault either. There are more problems on this team than just quarterback and it will take everyone doing well to pull us up.

My hope is that he plays decently, doesn't get hurt, and that the rest of the team helps pick him up. After all I seem to be one of the few folks who seems to remember that this is a team sport and no one player is responsible for all the good or the bad.

Yeah I dont think Jimmy is gonna light it up as erratic as he's been up til now. He seems like he has just a little too much adrenaline flowing on the field and has to learn how to control himself a little. That being said, he looks amazingly mature and polished for a rook. I personally am going to enjoy watching every start he gets regardless of what happens this season.

Knowing what we do about him is what makes it so interesting. The nfl is the best realty show/soap opera on tv.

Again if you want to see what he is really like, pick some games where he struggles and see how he copes with that. Those types of reels tell you more about how he will play in the NFl then a game against Michigan in 2009. QB play in the NFl is about gritting it out and winning when things aren't going your way. Those qualities which from everything I have read Clausen has, will do more to make him a success than watching him play against a team with no defense.

His worst game of the year was against Purdue when he went 15-26 for 171 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT in limited action after injuring his toe the week earlier. He still led a game winning TD drive on the road. His next worst was against Pitt on the road when he went 27-42 for 283 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT, and still almost led a huge 4th quarter comeback. Nothing close to a bad game besides those two, and he still played well in those games. Dude is the real deal. If you want to find games where he struggles, you can always pull a Gruden and chew him out for a pick he threw his soph year.

I haven't seen anything so far that tells me he will perform at all that much higher of a level than Moore at this point. Seeing he's a rookie, that's fine.

It may help having him in there just to force Davidson to game plan around him, rather than trying to "dictate the game" with a crap O Line.

This thread is ripe with problems.

First of all, I corrected someone who said that Clausen wasn't stepping into his throws because of his bad toe in the UM game. His toe injury came the following week against Michigan State, don't know what else to say about that.

Then someone implied the UM game was perhaps his best college football game. I cringe at that because it wasn't even close. First of all, they lost the game in rather dramatic fashion. Second, he played well but his completion % may have been the lowest of the entire 2009 season. Well below his average if I recall.

I agree with the paragraph you wrote. Jimmy has been way too overhyped and it is simply not productive. He took over as starter at ND the second or third game of his freshman season (coincidentally) and by no means set the world on fire. He took a record number of sacks that year and the team finished 3-9. But I also remember being really excited about ND football because of the reads he was making and his accuracy. I could tell the kid was going to be really good when he had a better team in place and some playing time under his belt.

I feel the same way now. Jimmy is going to play like a rookie and the Panthers are probably going to lose a lot of games. But what matters is that we see those flashes of what things will be like as the team matures. Matt lost that luxury because he wasn't a rookie and people expected what they saw last season which is arguably unfair. But "we are where we are" and I think with Clausen the bar gets lowered a bit where people are more focused on progress and not just wins.
