So...If Jimmy sucks....then what?

Awesomeness!!

If Clausen sucks, well he keeps playing anyway because we've got nothing behind him. Unless you think Fox is going to run the Mountaineer package all game.

But don't jump the gun on the Clausen sucks idea. Just remember the following.

- He played at a high-profile school, with more pressure than most college QBs experience

- Last year Clausen threw 28 TDs to 4 INTs. That sort of ratio is a positive indicator of NFL success

- Last year he threw for 3722 yards in 12 games, at a clip 8.78 yards per attempt

- He completed 68% of his passes. Yes, 68%. That's another strong indicator of NFL success.

- His QB rating was 161.43. Another indicator...

- He also left after his Junior year—he has a lot of physical development to go, and mental/emotional as well

- He's literally prepared for this moment his entire life, and by prepared I mean actual locker room, film room, on-the field preparation.

- He's a gym rat, and a film junkie. Both are indicators of NFL success.

I'm honestly not worried about his talent, ambition, drive, leadership, or ability. We've got the second generation of Robo-QB on our hands. What I'm worried about is him snapping. If he does, he's toast and we're back to square one as far as QB goes.

If he doesn't, I'm saying right now that in as few as three years we may have the best QB in the NFC South, and possibly the NFC on our hands. He has it in him to become that good.

i hope you're right. it's definitely in the realm of possibility.

It won't matter. Jimmy was never supposed to be here. We are going to get a new coaching staff that will rebuild our team from the ground up. They will draft or buy a QB to build the team around him. If Jimmy turns out to be the real deal, that's one thing the new staff will not have to worry about, and great for us and Jimmy.

If not, doesn't matter. With a lockout looming over next year...it will be 2012 before we start the rebuilding process under a new coach. That means 2013 before we even contend for a Superbowl.

If no lockout ....move everything up one year.

The truth is... really... honest... the guy has never won a meaningful game... ever. Every time he has taken the big stage for a big game he's crumbled like a Ritz cracker.

..

I watched every ND game of his career, not because I was a fan of his, I'm a fan of the school.

ND never lost a game because of Jimmy Claussen, they won some they should not have, and almost won some they should have because of him.

He played well, he played hurt. He played and was competitive in every game.

What games are you alluding too?

Sorry, but, there is no bigger stage in college football than the gold dome, even if it has lost luster through bad coaching choices.

He probably is gonna suck. I just hope he sucks less from game to game. I just want to see progress. We are a very young team, younger in NFL experience than years old. Progress is about all we can hope for this year. I'm ok with that, the last few years we progressed in the wrong direction.

Substitute "Panthers" for "ND" and "Matt Moore" for "Clausen" and you have the same results...

Here's the rub of the fans and their emotional connection to the argument:

A ND/Clausen fan will say it wasn't Clausen alone that lost games.

ESPN asks how Dallas could possibly lose to Chicago, not how Chicago won.

Everyone is looking to Brett Favre and all of his missing weapons were the reason Minnesota lost to Miami, not the rest of the team.

See where I'm going? If Matt Moore and Moore alone is the reason Carolina is 0-2, cut the guy now and go sign Jeff Garcia or someone. I'm simply not ready to assume anything with respect to whomever the starting QB may be, nor am I willing to assume anything or expect anything from the other 52 people on the roster.
