Is Jon Gruden the best fit?

so a team with one wide receiver would successfully institute a mike martz offense, a year after their rookie QB learned a completely different one.

Meanwhile somehow singletary would leave the 49ers for...a different team but the same position?

a move that would likely cost the panthers their first round draft pick and a chance at AJ Green?

Perhaps you shouldn't post anymore :)

How many QB's has Gruden ever developed? Can he disect the position and tell a QB what he is doing right or wrong? Yes. I can do that to.

Can he take a young QB and teach him how to see the game from behind center, show him how to use his body and eyes to manipulate the coverage, teach him how to move his feet and how to control the pocket and stay calm in the pocket, how to throw a better pass with better mechanics?

I don't know for sure, all the "talking heads" say he can but I have never seen a John Gruden trained QB dominate the NFL. Every QB he ever had was an older vet QB that protected the ball and didn't make a lot of mistakes.

Ever heard of someone a somewhat unknown QB named Brett Favre? I didn't think so. Just some nobody that Gruden coached up in Green Bay several years ago.

reminder that "dungy's defense" couldn't do a thing without Gruden's offense, which included a brand new system and quarterback.

it's not like he had any say in being traded. he wound up in a situation and made the best of it. turns out what he managed was more than the Panthers have ever accomplished.

fyi gruden was developing simms (and even offered him a contract extension after the 05 season) until his spleen asploded

I like Grudgen a lot and wouldn't mind having him. Awesome personality and I love it when he gets pissed.

But am I the only noticing a problem in picking a HC based on weather or not he would be a good coach to develop an untested rookie QB? Shouldn't we be concerned more about overall team coaching abilities and let the QB coaches handle the QB's?

Just saying.....I would think ability to develop Clausen would come second to overall team coaching ability.

True, but its not like Tampa's 2002 offence was stellar. It was just good enough to not holdback its great defence as Dungys did.

"Harbaugh is co-owner of Panther Racing in the Indy Racing League. The main car for the team carries Harbaugh's old jersey number, 4. When the team won the 2001 and 2002 IRL championship, the team, which had the option of going to #1, chose instead to keep the #4 for its association with Harbaugh's career."

his 6 games in Carolina must have really made an impression?

Year 2001 in Tampa Bay which was Dungy's last year Brad Johnson started 16 games and the offense finished 15th in points scored and 26th in total yards.

Year 2002 in Tampa Bay Brad Johnson (same QB) started 13 games for Gruden's first year and the offense finished 18th in points scored and 24th in total yards.

The difference between the two teams is Tampa's defense in 2001 finished 8th overall and in 2002 the Buc defense finished 1st overall. Monte Kiffin was the DC in Tampa from 1996-2008.

However, the only conclusion one can draw apparently is Jon Gruden is an offensive genius.
