Is Jon Gruden the best fit?

Things that are never a good idea if you run a professional football team:

#1- Fire your HC that is bad at making adjustments, doesn't do well coming up with an offensive game plan, chews too much bubblegum for excercise, can not win year to year consistently, and is living off an achievement from over 6 years ago. Then turn around and hire the guy that could never beat the HC you just fired and is living off an achievement that happened almost 10 years ago.

In his defense, he has headcoached in twice as many superbowls than Foxy and actually won one. We gave Tampa pure hell. The battles were epic but Grudens Bucs beat plenty of teams.

They say he won the Superbowl finally because of Dungy's defense.

Gruden + Dungy's D= SB Gruden + Meeks(Dungy disciple) = ???

I had forgot all about that... Interesting indeed.

And as I suggested in the OTHER Gruden thread, Harbaugh is my favorite. I like Gruden, but I'm not sure he doesn't grate on his players pretty quickly. Harbaugh is an offensive guy, could help whatever QB we have, and understands you have to score points. He comes from coaching and his family has been successful as coaches. I just think it makes sense b/c JR is a cheap ass and Harbaugh is an up-and-coming coach, never had a professional gig, and will be considerably cheaper than Gruden. I also think he'll bring in a DC that he knows he can trust to handle that side of the ball so he can concentrate on offense - what he knows.

I can't say I'd be unhappy with Gruden, but I prefer Harbaugh.
