Call it defeatist, or wimpy, or whatever, but only 12 of 32 go to playoffs every year, so 3/8ths of all the NFL make it. (I know I'm cheating realistic Statistical Probabilities of making playoffs, but let's just go with it, and pretend it's ok to do.)

Also, Fox's winning % is top 10 of active HC's.

As a player, or coach, or owner even, I need to have a "never accept losing attitude". As a fan, if I take that attitude with something I have no control over, then I'm just setting myself up to fail.

He won't be fired, but he will not be re-signed at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, and compare how he does vs. how we do without him. He's a very good football coach, he does a good job, and you don't see him doing things to embarrass this team. (ie; soundbites that end up as Coors ads, "swinging gate", cursing like a sailor on HBO, etc...)

Okay, now you lost me. I keep hearing people all over TV saying that, heard it yesterday at the end of the game. Not sure if they are trying to convince us stupid fans or themselves, but I am sick of hearing it.... I can't defend Coach Fox anymore. Not really sure how any Panther fan can.

And we don't know how much influence the head coach has in who they pick. Hurney might have said if Clausen is available, we are picking him and thats the bottom line.

As far as the Fox threads not going anywhere, it might be because there have been about a gazillion of them over the past year.

That's 22 teams out of 32. Not impressive in the slightest.

Once you narrow it down to teams that made the superbowl and a conference championship in that time span, that list gets much smaller, much much smaller. You're looking basically at the Eagles, Panthers, Colts, Patriots, Steelers as the only other teams to do what he has done I think, but I could be wrong, and a couple of those teams have seen coaching changes. You can pick one of his metrics and define him by it, or you can look at all of them; he is better than mediocre, but he hasn't been impressive lately, that is true.

You're right about lack of playoff appearances lately and lack of wins, but he's generally regarded as a good coach by the league. I sure get frustrated by him too, but he is what he is.

It might be a location thing. I'm a native NC'er who is transplanted to Northern VA (Redskin Country). The things that the players, coaches, owners, etc... say and do is really embarrassing up here, and I'm embarrassed for the people who pay to see them and wear things with their name on it. I'm never embarrassed to wear a Panther hat or shirt, no matter if they won or lost that week. It's more to me than just winning and losing, it's doing so with character. It might just be me though... :confused5:
