Considering a new TV

88 Bronco

I have a non-3D LED set. I like the different settings available for LED - just make sure you get a set with local dimming, full array, or whatever each manufacturer calls it - just avoid edge lit. The edge lit sets are complete and total garbage; those thin sets from Samsung look great in the store, but I promise buyer's remorse when you get it home.

If you're undecided about 3D, my best advice is to wait. The technology will be old in a year and will cost about half what it costs now. Once the second and third tier manufacturers like Vizio, Haier, etc start rolling out 3D sets, there will be a price war.

3D has not made its mark enough to know if the technology will be around for more than right now. Give it some time to be more than a flash in the pan...like Divix and HD DVD and such... Hollywood hasnt decided if it will continue to produce movies in 3D because each movie to come out 3D since Avatar has made less & less money. If they stop making movies in 3D, than we, the consumer, will not have to drop more money to replace a 2-3 year old TV with a technology that we did not want in the first place...

...and 88Bronco? If its a Mitsubishi DLP, it is 3D ready, as are all Mits DLPs. Spend the $300 to replace the lamp and find out what is needed to get it doing 3D...

like a few above me said, if you can do it, I'd wait another year or so. There are Glasses-free 3D setups which are very close to release, there are higher color displays just hitting the market. Too much new tech to properly guess what's going to catch on. You don't want to end up paying more for something if it's going to get leapfrogged in a year.

just my two cents.

Thanks I think I will just let the cash sit in the bank for a little while longer

Any electronic purchase you will have buyers remorse in a year or two except for speakers pretty much.

But yeah don't pay for 3D until it is truly mainstream average joe kind of stuff. All the kinks will be ironed out by then and it will be cheaper.

newegg.com the computer site actually has GREAT deals on tvs I would check them out. They are my favorite online retailer.

Why buy 3D when the media/inputs aren't really pushing the need yet.

When they become more readily available, THEN you'll see the ensuing 3d price battle commence.

Is this to replace a dying tv...or just money burning a hole in your pocket.

More the money burning a hole, I have replaced two lamps in my DLP( it's not a Mitsubishi) and I want to replace it before another one goes.
