Jimmy issssss starting!

Well, the fortunate thing for us as fans is that we have been used to watching our team be fairly competitive in spite of sub-par QB play for the better part of a decade. So even if Jimmy comes in and plays ok with the expected rookie mistakes, it puts us right where we are used to from a QB situation. So as far as I can tell there are 3 scenarios that come from this:

Scenario 1 (The Jimmy shits the bed scenario): Thinking along the lines of Weinke or David Carr. He gets shell shocked because of our shitty protection and playcalling, gets maybe 4 wins as a rookie, and turns into a career backup.

Scenario 2 (The Jimmy maintains our mediocrity scenario): Jimmy does just enough that we as fans keep thinking his breakout game or season is just around the corner, but never really leads us anywhere major. He may lead us to a few wild card one and done playoff berths, but just doesn't ever break out. Maybe Hasselbeckish?

Scenario 3 (The Jimmy pulls a rookie Big Ben scenario): In this scenario, Jimmy Clausen does great and pumps some life into the abysmal offense, leading us into the playoffs and getting better and better each year, until we have a legitimate franchise QB on our hands. This would be great, plus I'm not so sure Jimmy even likes girls, so we don't have to worry about Big Ben-like off field shenanigans.

That requires Clausen to do something he didn't do all preseason. Actually throw the ball down the field.

No it doesn't!

It requires him to do exactly what he has been doing in preseason and in yesterdays game! Consistantly move the ball!!!! The speed at which you get from one end to the other doesn't really mean much! You Clausen haters can talk about 5 yards per pass attempt but answer me this! Does he move the ball up and down the field on a more consistant bases than did Matt? Be honest with yourself!

BTW, I bet Cowher is loving the fact his future franchise QB is getting this very valuable experience!

The way I see it, it really doesn't matter who we have at QB if our O-line cant block. We have no time to figure out who to throw to (because we have SOOO many receivers) and we have no blocking to create holes for our running game.

The bucs are NOT that good.

Edit: I am scared.

I'm now excited to watch the game Sunday. Clausen looks to be very poised as a rookie. Constantly scanning the field and seems to get rid of the ball opposed to throwing in triple coverage. HE WILL MAKE MISTAKES, so don't flip out when he does.

This isn't 1962; we have to get the ball downfield and he gives us a better option to do that.

The only knock I have on Clausen right now, is that he zones in on one target. But he has only thrown a handfull of passes, so that maybe why.

No one ever said, it was going to be a dull season for the Panthers!

I'm just curious what the plan is if Clausen struggles? Say he throws 10 picks in 3 games, will we stick with Jimmy just because we have no one else? Is there a chance that Moore comes back? I see us signing a vet QB any day now just for security.

combine remarks on Jimmy

Displays impressive accuracy in the short passing game. Is athletic and mobile for the position and can avoid the rush and make plays outside the pocket. Has a very quick delivery.

i think his mobility will help him out. hopefully otah is back this week though, and he doesn't have to be so much. matt's problem currently. he's planted like a tree. no pocket presence.

BTW you are wrong about Cowher and about what Clausen needs to do. Watch what happens Sunday when the defense isn't in a prevent wanting him to throw short instead of down the field. Watch how the bengals put 8 guys in the box and blitz knowing Clausen is going to throw the dump route. Weren't you here for David Carr? Teams will play Clausen the same way unless he can throw the deep pass and make folks pay.

    • Interviews are huge for Green.  I agree people can change and make dumb decisions, but he was straight up kicked out of a program and had to leave UVA.  That just doesn't happen for a one time minor offense.   It's why I've been cautious with getting excited about him.  If he checks out with teams, he could go quite high.  If he seems like a kid with some issues, then there could be a nosedive.
    • Will say, a Warren choice could be favorable if you're considering the FA and mid-rounder landscape.  FA on offense is simply bad this year.  There's no real multi-year investments.  Defense is much different.  There's also not exactly any true elevators on offense draft wise outside of Jeanty and Warren (I do like Loveland a lot).  So if one of the few blue chips is there...I mean... And R2-3 has more impact options on defense. There's some REALLY appealing IDL (which is one of my top concerns) Tyleik Williams, Norman-Lott, Alfred Collins, & Philips to name a few.  Also at EDGE with Elijah Roberts, Tuimoloau, Ivey, Swinson, & Princely.  Not to mention Xavier Watts and others at DB.   We'll be attacking FA first which will predicate a lot.  And we are likely looking heavy defense, it may make taking a blue chip offensive guy quite appealing depending on who we get.
    • Is it really too late for Tepper to apologize and do the right thing with this abandoned project?
