I am no more negative than you are outrageously positive for no reason. I am simply putting some reality into your obvious euphoria and you for whatever reason can't stand anyone to criticize Clausen.

I for one was here when Collins was a rookie and when Weinke played as a rookie. You just see my comments as totally negative because you are are over optimistic. You will see what I already know. Clausen will have some good moments and plenty of bad ones like most rookies. He will not be answer this year either.

And if he doesn't learn to air it out and throw downfield, he will struggle mightily.

I'm with you man. I share the same feelings about some fans. I appreciate their enthusiasm but sometimes I find these same guys are the same ones that end up trashing these players when they dissapoint them because they set their own bars too high. Probably the younger crowd.

And the fact is, in the history of the NFL, most rookie QB's DO IN FACT struggle during their first years. The ones that do really good are usually the exception to the rule.

So fans that EXPECT Clausen to be one of those few are not being realistic in NFL terms. No one is saying it's impossible but deffinitley less likely, and if it happens it's a pleasant surprize, and that's what I would consider a optimistic but yet still realistic attitude.

There is also no such thing as a Rookie QB without flaws that doesn't deserves some share of criticism, and in the case of Clausen he has had some shots against him which cost him a slip out of the first round and is the main reason we even have him in the first place. So there should be no reason why fans get so upset at any Clausen criticism that may take place, and automatically label those of us that genuinely want the guy to suceed but may notice a problem or two - when they refuse to see ANYTHING wrong with him - as Clausen haters.

Sorry but no one's perfect. Panther fans need to learn how to be optimistic and faithful but also remain a bit more realistic. Might help with some of these drastic HIGHS and LOWS we have after every game. Not that I consider myself a perfect rolde model fan. I can get just as frustrated or emotional at the rest, but I do try to come down quick.

Of course I wanted him to start because he earned it last year and Clausen didn't do anything to change my opinion.

Moore deserved the start but it didn't mean if he played poorly that he should be the starter forever. We already did that last year with Jake and figured that one out.

I didn't call Clausen supporters like you idiots and most folks didn't either. Most of the comments were that you were too zealous for no reason and I still think that may be true.

Lets see what happens. You predicted Clausen to start by week six. By week six it may be Clausen, or Moore part 2 or even Pike. I don't think anyone would have expected things to turn out this way excapt Moore haters.

Easy now, I'm not a Moore hater by any means, I'm just a realist. I wish Moore the best and I really feel bad for him! As I have stated before, he doesn't deserve what he is getting now, the fans built him up to be something he definitely isn't and he failed them! I really hope he holds his head high and keeps working hard!

The 14-2 Pittsburgh team.

They started 0-2.

Started Roethlisberger.

Won 14 straight games.

Hey, you wanted a team..

Edit: Come to think of it..they might have went 15-1..

good point, but wrong numbers link

As a rookie, he went 13–0 in the regular season (14–1 including playoffs) as a starting quarterback, helping the Steelers become the first AFC team to have 15 wins (2–1 under Maddox [first two and last game], 13–0 under Roethlisberger) in a single season

actually you were right. i didn't read the whole thing.

Maddox started, and won, the season opener against the Raiders and started versus the Ravens. But after an ineffective outing and third-quarter injury to Maddox, Roethlisberger stepped in for his first NFL action.

Good post.

I agree. There is nothing wrong with rooting for players or being enthusiastic. But Greg Hardy is another one that everyone has been talking about how great he is and at this point he isn't. I think he could be special and wish great things for him but really the last defensive end who was great for us as a rookie was the number 2 pick in the draft. There is a huge learning curve in the NFL which most rookies find out. Those rookies especially at quarterback who succeed have typically a great defense behind them and a great running game. So far neither our running game nor our defense appear to be very good. So expecting Clausen to win it on his own or even play great is very unlikely. I would love it but aren't expecting it.

And I think you are closing the book on Moore way too soon. Clausen starting game 3 is the same as Moore starting the season. He will get a game or two to prove himself. If he is bad, he may be riding the oines in a few weeks. Fox has shown he is not going to stick with someone too long if they can't win. That will cut both ways.

I've been a ND fan for 20 years (damn i'm old) and aside from R.Mirer he's looked the best the past 20 years (FU B.Quinn).He will surpass Steve Beuerlein as the best QB in Panther history in 5 years. Need to play madden online with King Pickle :D

Sorry to tell you but Beuerlein wasn't the best quarterback for the Panthers. His teams never went over 8-8 and he never even made the playoffs.

You may be right, absolutely...but judging by what I have seen in him thus far, I don't see that happening. He will have some rough stretches, it will happen, as long as he learns from those I'm fine with him making them! I don't expect him to come in an have a perfect passer rating but I do expect him to do exactly what he has done and thats move the ball more effeciently than anyone else on our roster right now!

At this point though, to be honest, If Clausen does suck it up, I don't think Moore will be the QB we put in. The way he looks right now, I'm not sure Moore will ever see an NFL field again unless he is sitting in the stands with us. His confidence is gone and he looked like he had no place being out there with those guys. He is going to get himself hurt!

QB is an issue. Not the issue. Replacing Moore ain't gonna make everything better.

it's a start.

it's one that i'm glad we aren't waiting too long on. i'm glad to see that fox isn't going to be as resistance to change as he has been in the past. hopefully there will be more corrections coming with this one.

And Dan Marino doesn't have a SB ring, but does that mean he isn't the best QB to ever play for the fins?

The TEAMs Beuerlein played on weren't as good as the teams Jake played on.

Ol B definitely was a better QB.

And with that, Steve still put up better career numbers than Jake.
