Zod fixes the Panthers in 3 simple steps....

I don't think people really understand just how much the complete lack of a credible passing attack affects our team. Ronde Barber said as much after the game.

"I think we called the same coverage, same defense, about 30 times today, and it worked in the second half."

From the Charlotte Observer

The Buccaneers had so little respect for Moore and Carolina’s non-Steve Smith receivers that they regularly sent free safety Tanard Jackson up to the line to play the run.

The plan, says Jackson, was to make Moore “beat us.

We have plenty of other problems such as play calling and being a young team and all the pitfalls that come with that but just improving the threat of a passing game to an even average degree will go a long way to us winning more games this year.

I think Jimmy can get us to average in the passing game this year. He'll be good enough to allow our running game to dominate and competent enough to hit receivers when the opposing team puts 9 in the box. Our O-line is a lot better than the last two games and if we utilize our RB's out of the backfield and TE's (along with Smitty) we've got guys who can catch. I don't think it's too late to turn the season around.

Some good points here, by Zod even... I'm pretty disappointed in them, but I'm still a fan and will still watch every game. There's no one thing that has to be done that will magically fix it, but as we discussed last week... the o-line has to tighten up and give Moore (or whoever) some confidence and actually block for Williams and Stewart some.

But dont you think it starts with play calling? When we are so predicible on offense how can these guys get in a groove?I dont know why our line cannot get push but it is the coaches job to adapt and overcome.

I hated the playcalling in the first game, but this second game it was a matter of execution. It wasn't all on Moore, as there were several dropped balls that hit receivers right in the hands, but I do think Moore missed a lot of open receivers throughout the game by not going through his reads.

The one thing I loved when Clausen came in was that he wasn't afraid to throw a dink-and-dunk pass and let the running backs and tight ends do their thing. I'll take a three-yard pass that turns into a 12-yard gain any day of the week.

I hate to write Moore off just yet, but it's obvious that this is a rebuilding year and that Clausen is our future. You can't ask Clausen to come in there, watch him play substantially better in limited playing time, and then put him on the bench.

We've got to start Clausen and accept whatever mistakes he makes this year.

A sack every once in a while on 3rd and long would be nice. And those calling for more blitzes...... the problem with that is for some reason the Panthers appear to have absolutely no idea how to do it. Yesterday against the Bucs a blitz was tried and it is not even disquised. They players show it right away all lining up on the line so the QB see's it coming, then they all blitz right up the middle and get bunched up. They try, they just suck at it.

Well, I know one thing for sure. I'll always be a fan of your avis.

I think the play calling is the demise in our offense.Running it every down is not the answer.Run most of the time yes but dont be so predictible.Throw more to Mike Goodson, run a couple of draws and throw more short routes.Oh I forgot we do not have a reliable number 2.....get a reliable number 2 wr and then throw some short and intermediate routes.Every now and then change the 2nd down play we call and really throw them off. Some how or some way convert a 3rd down.

We just lost to 2 not so good teams...what is going to happen when we play someone that is good?

On defense we are stopping the run but we are going to have to get pressure on the qbs on third down and long.

agree with everything you said...

also, you can't run if that's all you do... we did run the ball a shitload in the 1st half.. even 3rd quarter.. so all this "getting away from the run" is sort of baffling to me..

and playcalling is a huge issue when Clausen goes 50+ yards down the field and then you run the ball 3 straight times inside the 5...

it's that kind of poo that I'm tired of watching on Sundays...

I can't believe we don't see more screens.. although Clausen did get to throw 2-3.. when you run the ball like we do, a screen play has to be used to loosen up the defense.. has to, especially when we have no receivers and our only one is getting all the heat...

we do not have a balanced football team...
