I really shouldn't have to state this for those of us on the Huddle, because he core of this message board is supposed to have sense.

If Moore is pulled from his starting role (which is still up in the air), then Clausen will more than likely be the guy from now until whenever. The main thing that we should be doing a fans in this situation is to have plenty of patience, be realistic, and give the kid time.

Unlike Moore, fans really shouldn't expect much from Clausen because he is a rookie. Yes, he has a football pedigree, and had a fairly impressive college career at one of the most high profile schools in the nation, and has been heralded as one of the most NFL-ready QBs out of his draft class (if not one of the better talents coming out for several years), he is a rookie. It will take time for him to put it all together before he actually excels at the position with consistency. Whether we like it or not, rookies make mistakes. Mistakes are expected of noob QBs, and Jimmy will probably make his share, so don't go all postal when he throws a pick or two to unseen defensive backs that jump in the lane at the last moment. Making errors is part of the learning process and the natural progression from becoming a guy that shows flashes of greatness into a genuine star QB in the NFL. And the learning curve will have plenty of rough edges.

Much hype has surrounded Jimmy Clausen throughout his life when it comes to football. From the time he was a child, he has received training to become an outstanding QB in the NFL. His time may be drawing near. Just remember that time is what he will need---whether a year, or two years---to make his dream (and many Panthers' fans' fantasy) a reality.

If Clausen is the starter, at least we can feel better by saying "he's a rookie, its ok. Give him time. Not all rookies step in and become Tom Brady."

With Moore its just like, "wow...been around for a few years. Making stupid decisions. Did fine at the end of last season. Did fine any other time he was put into a game. Now he's just...I don't even..."

Probably after Moore's week 1 performance caused Panther fans to relive Delhomme's 5 pick performances they don't expect too much. Just average would do me thinks.

Then week 2 comes and they just want change, any change.

I agree 100%. He will need time, and he does have something against him. He has been accused of not being mature and had his leadership qualities questioned. There is no QUICK fix for this.

Which is why I would love the Panthers to re-sign Jake as a back up if Jake were to bite. Jake doesn't need to teach Jimmy ability cause Jimmy has it, no question about that but Jake can teach Jimmy leadership qualities. This move would bring back the perfect stability at that position and puts us in a great spot to build the team around Jimmy with Jake telling the kid how to talk in the post-game press comments after a loss. Jake can teach Jimmy how to win the support of his team mates and love of the fans.

Bringing in some other veteran QB would be pointless. It would take him some time to learn our playbook, and just slow the process down. In that case we might as well just leave Jimmy in there and let time do the work. But if Jake is willing to throw his support behind Jimmy, so will the remaining veterans on this team. Especially Smitty.

Of course, Jimmy could just surprise us all and show us he can learn how to be a great leader all on his own, go out there and have a great rookie year. That's not impossible either.
