John Fox - Late Season Runs

John Fox teams follow one statistic - they play their best football in December. Since becoming the head coach for the Carolina Panthers, John Fox teams are:

20-14 in September and first week of October (Through 2009 season).

20-12 in December.

I thought if my memory served me correctly, John Fox teams played better in the last month of football, but that wasn't the case. The records are pretty close. I was surprised.

It's the way he preps the team.

Fox generally doesn't run as brutal a camp as other coaches might. Nor is he particularly tough on the team once the season starts.

Contrast that with a coach like Tom Coughlin, a guy who's full speed ahead from the first day. His teams tend to start well, but fade down the stretch.

It's not necessarily a bad approach, but that by itself won't give you a winning team.

They play their best football when the season is over and there is no pressure to succeed. Moore was fine in relief and after an offseason of coaching and having to be the guy he is a failure. Fox can't prepare his team to handle pressure.
