…the film doesn’t lie…RAS scores do…RAS is part of the eval…but it is the film that tells the story

Film can lie. Greg Little had great stats coming out. It was his combine drills and testing that showed that he didn’t really have the athleticism and balance to make it in the NFL. Trey Smith’s RAS score showed the difference between him and Deonte Brown because both were pre-draft day 2 guys.

Our problem is our recent/current GMs/scouts haven’t shown the ability to use all of the data to confirm that a good tape guy can transition to the NFL or a good athlete can transition because he wasn’t used right or in the best scheme.

We seem to take one of the pieces of data and run with that and ignore the other pieces. The good, consistent drafting teams seem to know what works well for them and how to find those good players.

I saw an interview yesterday with Mike Mayock talking about edge rushers in the draft this year.  Mayock is saying that he actually has Walker ranked above Carter.  His reasoning was that because of the way Georgia used him, Walker actually had fewer pass rush opportunities.  In Mayock's opinion, when Walker got his chance to rush, he was possibly more effective than Carter.

I really like the idea of getting a guy like this.  If we can get a guy to impact the QB, along with all our other changes, Evero is out of excuses.

Everyone has that problem.  Everyone does all their homework but then you have to make a decision and the reality is that no one knows who can play in the NFL until you've played in the NFL.  Film, stats, combine, watching players in person, interviews, talking to coaches.  Every team does all of that.

It's only in hindsight when a guy with average tape but a great RAS score, or vice versa,  turns out to be elite that we say that team was able to see the whole picture and make the right decision.

We, as fans, get a lot of the work done for us because of hype, media and everyone giving you a short list of who's the best at the start.  If we didn't have media telling us who is good most of us would be drafting 4th rounders in the 1st and 1st rounders in the 3rd.

There is this idea called "Signal to noise".  The signal is the truth.  The noise is everything else that really doesn't matter.  The problem is when there the more noise (or variable) the more difficult it is to get a clear signal.

The NFL draft and picking the right players is 60 to 80 percent noise.  It's even worse because the signal you're really looking for isn't even really there.  It's a projection.

I really believe the "gap" between Carter and the field is nonexistent. I just don't see solid logic behind it. I think everyone has Micah Parsons on the mind and thinks he will be 2.0. I don't believe that at all.

We will see if I am right about it.

The two blue chippers that you want go to war with in our range are Walker and the TE Warren. Bryce likes throwing to tight ends and Warren is a true Greg Olsen type TE. It's worth the gamble. Having an elite TE has proven to be a winning formula in the NFL

Drafting a tight end in the first round is a crap shoot. Bowers was great Hockenson was pretty good but Pitts and Fant weren't.
