Yes, Clausen should start the rest of the season...

I supported Matt Moore. I hate Clausen, I've hated him since his freshman year at Notre Dame. But, I think it's time to let Clausen take the reins. Matt Moore just isn't cutting it. I won't solely blame our woes on him though, our defense is terrible. The secondary is just plain bad. We let the Bucs score 20 points, and Freeman had all day to throw. We need to switch QBs and switch around the secondary.

Rosario was decent but he did drop that one ball that could have easily netted us at least three points. Just saying but no one was perfect out there today, even Smitty dropped an easy catch....except Beason and Connor.

so did Smitty.. but I recognize that.. at least he was getting looks and had some catches.. we HAVE to utilize our TE's in a big way this season...

He was only in for two series, and he had one near interception, one actual interception, and was running for his life on a couple of plays. So asking how many times he was sacked is somewhat irrelevant. He wasn't in enough to get sacked much.

Should Clausen play? Perhaps, but Mr Scott is right, there is a risk to playing him.

The INT he threw wasn't really a result of pressure from what I saw, it was just poorly thrown. I get what you and Mr. Scot are saying, but Clausen has been preparing for this for awhile, he was groomed for it, the offense is familiar, and my point of not being sacked was he getting rid of the ball quicker. He also could've thrown a TD pass on that first drive had our placycalling been worth a crap when we were inside the 5-yard line.

Clausen played part of one quarter against a team that was protecting a double digit lead. That's not the same as playing from the first snap against an aggressive attack like the Bengals bring.

There's a lot that could go wrong.

The Bucs were still blitzing him. I'm not saying he's the 'cure-all' to our problems, nor am I saying he is the answer at QB, that's yet to be proven. But, with his history, I don't think he will turn out like Carr regardless of what happens.

As I said in another post, Freeman played a good amount as a rookie and threw 5 INTs in the game against us - if that doesn't shatter your confidence, I don't know what will. He seems to be doing pretty well now and doesn't seem gun shy at all, in fact, he pissed me off with how poised he looked today.

Peyton started his rookie year, got sacked like groceries and threw picks, he seems like he's an OKAY QB lol.

I know there's plenty of other examples that failed, but I think guys that have been groomed do fairly well if they have their head on right off the field.

I'm not worried about Clausen. He seems pretty secure with who he is and what he can do even as a rookie, and I by no means have ever been a 'Clausen guy.'

Matt always look for the big play. If he has time he can hit it on 3rd and long, its like he rather it be that way, but sometimes he needs to keep it short and move the chains. He just doesn't pass that way. Interesting cause last year he took whatever was there

Jimmy, thats what he will do, is pass short. Dont expect to be converting 3rd and 18 with him

But it doesn't matter who's QB when you got retarded plays called

most QBs rarely convert 3rd and 18...

Yeah, I've been meaning to say, in MM's defense, in what little there is, he has had several guys drop passes. The passes that are being dropped are usually right on the money too. Everyone's talking about the pass he missed on Gettis, but Rosario couldn't have dropped an easier TD.

And I just think Smitty has softened up and I don't like it. He's dropped more passes than I ever remember through 2 weeks and just seems lackadaisical at times.

so Clausen is pulling a Moore from last season....what happens next season when Clausen is the starter and pulls a Moore this season?

Hopefully Mike McCoy is his head coach by then, look what mike did with delhomme in 2003, steve smith 2002, moore in 2007, Broncos 2009.

(ps. mccoy was WR coach in 2002 when Steve was rookie and ran wild)

Kind of sucks for Jimmy though that he will have to learn another offense next season.

The advantage being his Pro Type College O might be more valuable toward the future than this year. :P

We'll see what kind of OC Cowher hires.

That and....

The horrible O-line and WR situation.

I just hope more good than harm is done.

When Otah returns there will be two Number Ones and Kalil an excellent 2nd rounder anchoring it for years to come.

Wide receiver needs to be addressed ASAP and seriously. Not waste a future 2nd on a prospect when we need help yesterday.

Matt Moore prepped 3 years on the Panther bench and had 8 starts previous to this year. He aint where he should be by now.

Clausen looks more in command with 30 Pro snaps under his belt than Moore does going into his 4th year. Play Pickles the rest of the year. Get some experience because he needs to compete with Drew Brees, Josh Freeman and Matt Ryan for years to come. Let's find out what we have.
