Kasay hits milestone

Panthers K John Kasay walked by on the practice field and we said good morning to each other, pretty much the same way we have most days for the last 14 seasons.

Started to say something along the lines of "Congratulations on moving up the list," but stopped, figuring that A) he'd have no idea what I was talking about and B) wouldn't care even if he did.

With his three field goals and an extra point last week in New York, Kasay moved into eighth place on the NFL's all-time scoring list with 1,741 points. The move also had a bit of history, as he passed Norm Johnson, who he beat out to be the Seahawks kicker as a rookie in 1991.

But it's also exactly the kind of thing that means little to Kasay, at least while he's playing.

His focus is on the next kick he has to make, and anything that doesn't help him hit that one doesn't gain much traction in his head. It's not that he's aloof about records, he's just hyper-focused on his performance, and never pays much attention to them.
