Read sales management books. Lots of them. Be stern but fair. You're not their friends. Make well defined processes and make sure everyone is aware of them because someone will fvck up and you'll need to know how to address it to your customers and your staff.

Be positive and complimentary always. Act as if your are happy to come to work everyday. Be interested in your staff as people not just staff. (Still maintain good boundaries). Any negative feedback should be given in private and be objective. Be fair. Expect everyone to do their job. Deal with problems promptly. Trust but verify. Don't expect to be liked or popular. Life is not fair but you have to be. Always give the credit for success to others. Be a good communicator. Keep the staff informed.
