Questions from an Eagles Fan

Hi Panther Fans,

Sorry about your loss to the cardinals, I really wish that we were playing this game in Carolina for the rematch, but stuff happens.

I had a few questions about this cardinals game. I am over seas and didnt get a chance to see your game.

1) By looking at the stat lines it looks like the Arizona D had a great day, however looking at the stats doesnt tell the entier story. Cardinals fans are posting how their team dominated on both aspect of the ball. Is that how it happened? Or was it pure bad qb play

How good does is this teams secondary? I see this game different than most. all keep saying how the eagles d needs to stop this high powered cards offense. I see the eagles giving this cardinal team fits. we played the vikings and giants and would say that both of those defenses are much better then arizona. Am I right?

Thanks for your reponses in advance

We killed ourselves that day. Bad offensive playcalling and a generic defensive scheme that wasn't tailored to oppose any specific offenses. You think we'd have that for a playoff game, but that's not panthers ball apparently. There's no reason to be afraid of their defense. You just have to hope that your team commits to running a balanced attack on offense.

our QB lost the game for us.. plain and simple..

their front did get a bit of consistent pressure.. their secondary just jumped routes all game.. and with Jake's lazy throws with no zip, they got to them easy..

their run D is where Westbrook and Buckhalter should gash them.. Mcnabb should have any problems picking apart their secondary..

as far as your D vs their O.. your blitzing scheme is probably the anti-christ for Warner.. if your team isnt stupid and too full of pride to double cover Fitz, you should be fine.. you have the corners to take out Fitz and cover Breaston..

is Boldin playing?? i havent kept up since we lost.. if he is playing, you might have a bit tougher time.. but i still think if you play Your game, you win easily..

Really Verse the Eagles can beat the Cards but you must stick to your gameplan that made your team win. Don't come in like we did with something different and screw up bad. Then panic and screw up worse. The key to taking out their offense is COVER Fitz!!! and Rush Warner !! if you do that 3 and out all day long. Thier defense is ok...nothing special, let Westbrook run it and throw in a little accurate passing by McNabb and Pow!!!...Instant Win. And make sure McNabb is not color blind like Jake was.... Eagles 31 Cards 17...

its a simple gameplan

Knock Warner out of the game ..

Its hard to throw to FITZ & Boldin if your out or on your back all day

On Offense

Run Run Run and screen pass the Cards to death

That is where their weakness is ,and will open up Jackon & Curtis

when I first saw your score I was so so so excited. I was like the Carolina Panthers just gave us a gift! An easy trip to the bowl.. (please dont take that the wrong way) Ill take a walk in the park (Cardinals) vesus an all out brawl (Panthers)

The only factor against the Eagles is that they are playing in a dome with some hysterical Card fans that have never seen their team go this far...but as long as Fitzgerald is contained and Mcnabb does'nt have 6 turnovers, you guys should be heading to Tampa for your next game.

    • Did we take over a thread about who you'd take #1 by having a debate on who you'd take #1? Basically you still don't want to answer my question, probably because your answer would be either T-Mac like myself, or Hunter, which taking a CB #1 overall is even crazier on the surface than what you're saying I'm stupid for in wanting a WR there. As I've said before, it's a season without a traditional clear top pick(s).  It would be great if we could trade back if we got #1, but if not, there's nothing wrong with taking a truly elite WR and build out our roster correctly for once instead of always trying to find the quick fix and it backfiring.
    • I just thought of an interesting comparison for what I'm arguing with taking T-Mac and how to build up to hopefully being a contender. The mid 2000's Arizona Cardinals In 2003 they took Anquan Boldin early in the 2nd, kinda a decent comp for Legette with style of play and being more of an elite #2 than a true outside #1 (they also took a WR in the 1st too who didn't pan out). In 2004 they took Larry Fitzgerald #3 overall, the true outside #1. Their QB's at the time, Jeff Blake and Josh McCown The QB they passed on to take Fizgerald, Philip Rivers. They were in the Super Bowl a few years later after they found their QB in Warner to slot into an already built out roster of elite weapons. Cam, you asked how it would look if we passed on a QB who pans out for a WR, well, do you think the Cardinals regret taking Fitz over Rivers?  I highly doubt it. Our roster is more than one offseason away from contending.  I'm not looking for the quick fix because there isn't one with the state of this franchise at the moment, I'm looking to contend for a decade. I don't think a QB in this draft class is good enough to take 1st overall with everything else we still need.  My next preference would be an elite pass rusher, but again, I don't see one of them in this draft either. My personal bias aside, I very honestly think T-Mac is the most can't miss offensive prospect in this draft (Hunter would be that on defense).  He is the WR we've been trying to get since we lost Smitty.   Brooks, T-Mac, Legette, Coker/FA, Sanders would have the potential to be one of the best offensive weapon sets in the NFL.  Sure, hopefully we could hit on a superstar QB in the next draft, but even if not, if those guys pan out, with them all are in their prime together, we wouldn't need a Mahomes or Allen to contend, we'd only need to find our Jared Goff. and spend all our FA money the next couple offseason on Defense.
    • Competent QBs can read defenses presnap, see where their best matchups are and already know where they're going with the ball. Then have good footwork with fast fundamentally sound dropbacks. See the field well and decisive with their decisions on where to go with the ball. And an NFL caliber arm, get the ball out quickly and deliver it with velocity. Bryce can do none of these things.
