Does having 3 talented TEs lead to mediocrity?

top dawg

we could have 2 TEs doing the same job. same with 2 kikers. not very efficient, imo. i'm more bothered by the kicker situation, though. too bad we're still hung up on history and hanging on to kasay.

we use all three TEs quite a bit but i don't think it's necessary. do we stick them in because we need them or do we use them because we have them and they are about the only reliable receiving targets that aren't smitty or are RBs.

just let king go. i wouldn't mind it so much if we involved them more in the receiving game instead of using them as an "oh crap, none of my receivers got open! where am i going to throw it?" option.

I totally agree with you on all the above, having a KOS, is a luxury that only a championship contending team can afford to carry. (By what Kasay said in an interview, he has no intentions of retiring.) He is a great FG kicker, but thats only half of his job. How long can this team afford to carry 3 kickers on a 45 man active list?

As far as TE's, I agree with letting King go. Barnidge and Rosario have more playmaking ability than King. Some would say King is a better blocker, but I would tend to disagree. The team could always use an extra OL in pass protection or in the run game, something the Giants had success with after Boss was injured last week, the ran the ball really well in the second half. Once again thats another roster spot gained and that is huge when you have 3 rookie WR's that you are trying to develop.

They're good for what the do, but will never be a Witten, Gates, Clark, etc. Barnidge could maybe have solid numbers if he were treated like the names above but we keep him stuffed at number three. Plus, doing that would change Fox's gameplan.

Put them on the same team as Peyton Manning, and they'll all be game changers. lol, it's ridiculous how good that guy is.

we don't have three talented TE.

Oh, really. How many do we have? Does it really matter how many we have?

i dont really see what your problems is would you rather the panthers had a much of crappy TEs? you know your fans are nuts when they complain about the teams does right...

You have missed the point entirely, and haven't answered the question. We could just as well have "crappy" TEs with the effectiveness that they are used. This is a time (really past the time) when we should be manipulating our TEs to great benefit, but we really aren't. The TEs should be within the flow of the game. All can arguably catch. Some may block better than others, but there has been some improvement in that area. They are probably more open than our receiver(s). Has Fox and company missed the mark when it comes to utilizing their talents. Would our team be better served if one of them was continually planned into flow of the game? Shouldn't our QB be checking for the TEs, and not think of them as just an afterthought? Does it break continuity by playing always playing all of them as opposed to just concentrating on one or two of them? This is really not a question about whether or not we'd be better off with the Three Musketeers.

No, no he's not. I made a post on it a few weeks ago. Last season he was the 16th best kicker in the league I think (possibly 15th) stats wise. There are many younger, stronger, and more tuned kickers in this league that don't waste a roster spot. We are the only team in the league with a KO specialist. We all love Kasay and what he's done, but his leg is old and it's time to say goodbye. I think his contract is done this year though. He'll retire. He'll probably get put on the wall of fame too. But he's no longer automatic.

Im assuming (correct me if Im wrong) you read his stats on NFL.com. (For 2009 he's ranked 18th)

However they rank it initially,(provided you dont choose a different category) on field goals made. Which is not the best indicator.

Look who is at number one on the 2009 list: David Akers, he is ranked number one becuase of his 32 made field goals. However he attepmted 37, meaning he missed just as many field goals as Kasay. Give Kasay ten more atemtps and he wouldve been higher up.

He missed one out of ten from 30-39 and one out of six from 40-49. Which is nothing.

His real misses are 3 out of 4 from the 50 plus. At this point luck is moderatly involved .

One was a 53 yarder at New England in December with bad weather.

The other two were a 51 vs ATL and 52 vs Tampa , both which were blocked.

Based on him making a recorod 52 yarder this season at Heniz, and another at NY. Its safe to say he still has a strong leg.

He's not automatic (no kicker is) but he's still a top one.

Is he worth 2 roster spots...no!
