Man I gotta say...Creed was really good.

i don't think a band needs to be great musicians to make great music nor does the music have to be complex in any way. I mentioned Helmet before and I am not going to sit here and say they are great musicians, but their music just rocks.

HA.

Do you really wear Jorts?

Lyrics are actually what makes or breaks a band most of the time, and few can write good ones.

Most pop music is simple because that's what people like. People rarely like music that is technical, and that's why acts like Justin Beiber and Kesha etc. are so popular

This is the juxtaposition most musicians face, play music that satisfies the musician in you, or play music that is simple but well liked.

If you need an example (and a local one) just look at the Avett Brothers

For me personally the actual music and instrumentation is much more important to me then the lyrics. Of course I listen to the lyrics but I often catch myself paying more attention to the music itself.....I guess that's the years of playing various instruments in me.....

I actually like Creed.. Nickelback too. That's ok to give me sh*t about it.. I've liked Bon Jovi for years and have seen all sorts of crap over that one. Simple fact is, I like what I like, and don't give a damn what anyone else thinks of my musical tastes.

I can understand the dichotomy that Zcustom was talking about. Playing music you enjoy versus playing music everyone does.. it's a fine line, and the truly great bands can walk it. I'd say a good example of how quickly you can miss that line is Dream Theatre.. their first major album sold quite a bit and was full of time changes, key changes, very technical and Rush-like. The next few albums they made for themselves, and basically dropped off the face of the Earth. If they would have slowly changed, they might have stuck around. But they decided to go for broke immediately, which cost them.

Loved that album too... front to back.

Now riddle me this.. can't stand most of Zeppelin.. I know, I know.. but I grew up in a time where it was shoved down your throat every time you turned around. The weird part is, I loved Plant solo, and I loved Coverdale-Paige... so go figure, eh? Maybe it was John Paul Jones or something?

Meh anyone who gives someone poo about their music tastes is a tool me thinks. Too each their own, I don't like Creed or Nickelback....let me rephrase that, I DETEST Creed and Nickleback, but I have no problem with people who do like them. I mean maybe Justin Bieber or something but eh.....

I know I'm supposed to like Nirvana and that sniveling wimpshit Cobain...like they are the 90s version of the Beatles that saved us from the 80s and were visionary and whatnot....keep it.

Sorry. They did nothing for me then, and they still do nothing for me now.

The best thing about grunge was that it went away, sorta.

I'm sure those statements will be unpopular since this board seems to skew towards the demographic that came of musical age during the height of Seattlesque music...but there it is.

Creed seems to be just another continuation of that sound, to me, but I'm also the guy that goes to the Who concerts and rocks out to the ancient ones.

But as C42rtyoherporepjlg said, to each his/her own when it comes to music.
