He's not in the top three, let alone No. 1.

cordially disagree.

with the football in his hands, from anywhere on the field, he was always 1 broken tackle away from putting 6 points on the board. if Steve ever had a bad day, and I’m sure he did at some point, I can’t remember it. His spirit was completely unbreakable.

There was no way to scheme around him. He caught everything and ran great routes. Jam Steve at the line… lol, good luck with that. He played every play like his life depended on it. The bigger the game, the bigger he played.

We’ve had all time great defenders who take games over and wreck shop, but they aren’t a threat to put 6 on the board on every play. Steve was. SS89 kept head coaches awake at night more than any other Panther ever had.

Was he a good teammate? Hell no, and he’s admitted to such.

Just my thoughts.

Hard to put him ahead of Peppers Luke and Cam honestly.  You could make the case of best offensive weapon we ever had

I know people do not rate players based on the "big picture" but Smith did not encourage younger WRs--in fact, he bullied some.  So if he is great but nobody else emerges in the WR room for several years, and his rep as a teammate is not good (punching teammates, getting in people's faces) then how can he be that great?  I have mentioned several times how I watched him at OTAs and nobody talked to him except Kasay.  Smith was a dick.  now, he practiced as hard as he played, and he was a great player, but even if you are a star, you are one of 53 or you are a weakness.  Some may disagree, but I watched him for years.

Cam is the only one that’s debatable for me personally.  No offense to the defensive guys.  But prime Steve smith was a 1 man game changer that delivered every week.

Peppers and Luke are in the top 5 of their positions probably all time.  Can you really say Smith is top 5 WR all time?  I don't think so.  He was a monster but a bad teammate and yeah with more consistent QB play or a great QB he "could" be top 5.  But it didn't happen.  Still probably top 3/4 Panther of course.

Very compelling and well said. It is the main reason why he has yet to receive his gold jacket.

I think he's in the top 6-10 conversation. I'd take Smith over Holt, Bruce, Wayne, Fitzgerald, Tim Brown, Boldin, Carter, Marvin Harrison, etc. Hard to say he's better than Rice, Moss, TO, Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones, peak Antonio Brown.

I don't know man. Steve Smith was a legit menace on the field. Remember when Chicago refused to double him in the playoffs? Completely took over the game. Then Seattle said "F" that and triple teamed him. We couldn't move the ball at all. Then that mofo said well let me run a punt then. And he ran that "B" back for like a 60 yards TD. He was better with the ball in his hand than probably every WR you mentioned. And at 5'9" he was a legit jump ball 50/50 receiver, as well as a smoke screen home run threat. He was different man. Real different.

I wouldn't take any of those guys over Smith. He took over games and willed the team to wins plenty of times. Delhomme would just randomly heave up the ball in his direction and he'd magically/acrobatically/sensationally come down with the ball with two DBs draped all over him. He also had a nasty stiff arm, can run through you, and get in your head. He was a super saiyan on the field. The more angry he got the better he played.

Oh I'm with you. I'm saying he's better than anyone not named Moss, TO, CJ, Jones.
