huge contracts.. omfg... lol Cause Peppers was worth 18 mil, right..

we will be paying a WR, that is a solid #1, a big contract.. get used to that idea... if we don't.. it means our WRs are average at best.. and we'll be lucky to get a few average WRs any time soon..

and if you say we don't need it now.. we ARE NOT REBUILDING.. we have a good chance to do something this year if we had some WRs to throw the ball..

we do not need to wait 5 years before we sign a good WR.. .lol

What part of this team doesn't throw the ball much aren't you getting? Is it throw? Ball? The? If everything else on this team works out and another elite WR is our only hole, then I was wrong. But it would be a dumb use of resources to pay a guy 8 million a year for a stat line that reads 5 catches 48 yards after every game. This is not that offense. Sorry. And if this offense doesn't work then we'll bring in a whole new guy with an offense he wants next year.

I think you pointed out how they have.. they brought in old WRS and stuck with bad young WRs (that they failed to develop, if they were capable of even being developed.. latter being important key to my point).. so I guess based on technicality, you're right.. ;)QUOTE]

How have I pointed it out?

The older WR's worked for what they signed for. Short term replacements.

Johnson had 70 catches for 800 yards and four touchdowns.

Moose had 118 catches for 1500 yards and six tocuhdowns over the two seasons.

They used 4 picks between the 2nd-3rd rounds. Wether or not they pan out is a moot point. Ignoring is not based on wether the picks succed or not.

Theres no doubt that (barring this year picks step up, which is not a remote possiblity) we have not found a longterm replacment, and the FO has not done everything possible to get one ( signing a top FA per example).

But there is no argument for saying they've ignored the postion for year. They simply havent.

All Housh cares about is that ring, baby

hence his previous signing with Seat-WAIT A MINUTE

His number 1 is money. He proved that by going to Seattle over contenders like Minnesota last year. But the guaranteed salary took that out of the equation unless a team was willing to poor out more than 7 million.

alright.. I've had my fill for the night.. I think for every reason you have on why we can't succeed, I've proven it's false logic... we can go down the rabbit hole further.. but like I said above.. successful people problem solve.. they don't look at why something will fail... I think if you change that view a bit, you'll see there is hope and it's absolutely ridiculous we haven't found a solution yet behind Smitty...

let me know when y'all are ready to stop looking at why we have to stay mediocre forever at WR..

Successful people problem solve is true, but they also are careful not to create bigger problems in the process. Your plan to simply pay what it costs to get one of the available WRs this year is very short sighted. The world won't end following the '11 Superbowl. Assuming a deal gets worked out, there will be football into the future. How would that 12.5 million guarantee for Marshall, the 10 million for Boldin, or the other terms of their contracts affect our ability to field a competitive team into the future? What do you do if the new CBA sets a cap that results in our having to cut whichever of those guys we grabbed in order to comply? Draft one? We gave up the picks to get them? Trade for another? Still no picks or give up talent from other areas. None of that makes sense to me.

so you're whole point of view comes down to we don't throw but 20-25 times so we only need 1 WR.. what aren't you getting? you still NEED another solid receiver.. guys aren't getting open.. shut down the running game and we are one dimensional.. are you not getting that? the quality of receivers go down after this year.. you'll be paying the same for less...

and you are making waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many assumptions in your points... stat lines read small numbers because WE CAN'T THROW.. not because we WON'T throw.. Davidson's track record already shows when he starts throwing, he forgets about the run...

stop making poo up.. lol

bandaids aren't addressing the real problem... I get your point, they have made attempts to address the position..

keeping the point strickly to "have they did something, anything to get a WR".. you're right, they have... so therefore they haven't ignored it.. and half-measures avail us nothing..

find me players that were of the caliber available this year... and we would only be jumping the gun 1 year earlier.. I don't agree with your point.. successful people would understand the quality goes down after this year and you would have locked up for long term.. that is far from short sighted... "sticking to a master plan" is totally short sighted..

so please, leave the short sighted remarks to politicians... lol

Yes we need another SOLID receiver. So we went out and drafted multiple guys that should be able to do that. I wouldn't pay a guy the biggest salary on the team and then throw it 15 times. By that logic, would should have brought in Karlos Dansby 43 million this year to play a good couple of downs against the run most series. It just doesn't fit our system. And when does Davidson forget about the run? This last game and the playoff game against arizona? Two games, amazing. All my points are moot.

Bolden would have brought great leadership to this team (which goes with ur rebuilding theory).. Leave Dansby out of this.. We don't need Dansby.. Bolden was a great fit..

And if you haven't learned by now, our ability to draft WRs is non-existent.. We haven't drafted 1 SOLID receiver..

So yeah, your points are moot.

Sweet solid leadership and fifty yards a game. Totally worth 8 million dollars a year. Boldin was not a great fit because we don't throw it enough to justify tossing a guy money and draft picks. If leadership on this team was that important we could have brought back Moose. On a day when this team, constructed as it is, throws enough to justify having two number one receivers, we are probably losing.

i agree with boldin. we really should have gone after him.

i would say that the jury is still out on lafell and edwards, though edwards would all under the category of developing a WR which is something we haven't really excelled in either. still too early to tell with those two. so far no WR in this class has looked all that great. the golden "boy" tate has supposedly looked pretty bad in practice and was benched last week. unless he gets his crap together he might be the next best bust since dwayne jarrett.

i understand their idea of not pursuing a vet WR but it sure would have helped this team this year be more competitive.

Extremely short sighted. Without the limits that will be defined by a new CBA established, there is no way to predict the team's ability to keep any player beyond this year, especially the ones that are commanding the salaries at the top for their position as your best options are.
