Hahaha Jerry, you're facing a potential blackout on Sunday

You normally don't go out and give huge free agent contracts to players when you are "rebuilding". That is sort of a big part of rebuilding. We could get a guy who will be old, done and overpaid by the time we are done rebuilding, wasting his time and ours.

We have to see if our quarterback is any good, if our defense is any good, and if our coach and front office are going to still be here. It is a pretty good time to see if any of the young guys are worth anything.

what you normally don't do is ignore for years a position that has been alarmingly horrible..

what you normally don't do is expect your offense to play well through "rebuilding" without any weapons.. when your #1 WR is locked down due to double and triple coverage and your running game (your strong suit) is locked down because we can't throw... you need more weapons.. it is possible, JUST BELIEVE.. ;)

what you normally DO is sign players who you want to build your team around.. and Smitty was willing and wanted a guy to step in as #1 for the FUTURE of the franchise.. Normally, that is what happens in rebuilding..

one thing though.. many people will strongly argue that we AREN'T rebuilding as you say.. we have a lot of good players who needed to play, and so we got rid of the old ones...

so again, all your points seem irrelevant to why we shouldn't have brought in/locked up a true #1 WR...

I'm not just arguing with you.. I'm arguing with anyone who feels the same as you do, and there are plenty.. don't take it personal (not that you are)

To get any of those guys we would have had to give up high draft picks to get them, major parts of rebuilding. I am just saying, in a year your quarterback and defense might be bad and your coach and front office lame duck, it seems like a poor year to bring in a big ticket guy. See what we have and if it's good then we can go out and get a receiver. There will always be some talented, mercurial receiver demanding a trade and a new contract. It's what they do.

If you think we could have been a major contender this year, fine I see the point of getting those guys then and can understand the frustration.

I'm not taking anything personal and hope it's likewise. I just don't see how people can be so angry for the team seeing if any of the guys we have can play.

nope.. Miami gave up two 2nd round draft picks.. for a Brandon Marshall, those 2nd rounders are more than worth it.. and Baltimore gave up a 3rd and 4th for Bolden..

so again.. you go for it.. regardless how bad your team is, you make that move.. you can't get better without upgrading your team.. and you keep saying rebuilding.. you should think of it as "young players were ready to step up".. totally different scenario than the one you think is going on...

that makes absolutely no sense to say "I think it's a good idea to see how bad we get before we upgrade a much needed position"..

you need that guy regardless... all these reasons are just a smoke screen to say "f**k it, let's stay mediocre"...

I don't see how anyone cannot be angry over a team ignoring a vital position for 5+ years.. that's insane!

I wouldnt say we ignored it.

2005-Had Colbert coming off a very promising season.

2006-Signed Keyshawn.

2007-Drafted Jarret and Robinson.

2008-Signed Moose and Hackett

2009-No changes

2010-Drafted Lafell, Edwards, Gettis

The only thing we really havent done is use a first rounder or sign a big name from FA. And even then you have to look at it by a year by year bases.

Other than Colbert's one good year..

I wouldn't say filling that position with vets at the end of their career and an inability to develop WRs is doing what it takes to address the situation either...

with all you pointed out, and staring at failure in the face.. when you see guys like Bolden and Marshall available, you do whatever it takes to make that happen.. and all it took was trying... at least fuging try.. lol

I don't neccesarily disagree with the latter. But regardless its obvious the FO hasnt ignored/turn a cold shoulder on the problem.

Without that second we don't get Clausen who is as big a piece to build around as anything we might have right now. I don't agree that "regardless of how bad your team is you go for it". For a couple years the Broncos were built around Marshall and they were mediocre. For years the Cardinals were built around Fitzgerald AND Bolden and they were mediocre to bad until they got a quarterback and some defensive players. Having a receiver as a building block doesn't tend to work that well. It's a waste of your available money, and in this case, draft picks until you have the pieces to make it work.

Would I like another great receiver? Yes, but I'm saying don't neglect it at the cost of several positions down the line. A great receiver and a bad team are pretty worthless. If all the positions in question come through this year, great and I am wrong. We should have gotten a receiver. But if they don't and we had gotten a receiver, we would have had far less versatility this offseason. Something we might need a lot of if there is a lot of change with the front office/coaching staff.

clausen could be a good pickup.. then again maybe not.. thats what you get with draft picks.. let's hope he does.. I hope Moore does as well.. we got lucky Clausen even fell that far.. if not, that 2nd wouldn't have picked him up..

to compare denver to carolina is ridiculous.. they don't have a Smitty (+ Marshall, if he would ever be brought in) or the best backs in the league with our OLine (which needs to show up)

Bolden for LaFell and AE.. gotta be kidding me to pass that up.. so let's say we didn't get Marshall and made a play for Bolden..

This is a key point I'ma bring up: successful people find ways to SUCCEED.. not look for problems.. it gets old arguing with problem finders instead of problem solvers..

you are totally ignoring our team and trying to compare other teams and how if all they have is a WR, they suck...

well no poo.. good job on pointing out the obvious... let me do the same, but different- we have one major hole.. fill that poo..

I don't neccesarily disagree with the latter. But regardless its obvious the FO hasnt ignored/turn a cold shoulder on the problem.

I think you pointed out how they have.. they brought in old WRS and stuck with bad young WRs (that they failed to develop, if they were capable of even being developed.. latter being important key to my point).. so I guess based on technicality, you're right.. ;)

-------------------

alright.. I've had my fill for the night.. I think for every reason you have on why we can't succeed, I've proven it's false logic... we can go down the rabbit hole further.. but like I said above.. successful people problem solve.. they don't look at why something will fail... I think if you change that view a bit, you'll see there is hope and it's absolutely ridiculous we haven't found a solution yet behind Smitty...

let me know when y'all are ready to stop looking at why we have to stay mediocre forever at WR..

No Denver might have had a better offensive line at the time than ours is now with other nice receivers (Royal, Stokely, Graham), a pro-bowl quarterback and a Shanahan running game that could squeeze a thousand yards out of my cousin (speedy), and that wasn't enough to make the playoffs.

Boldin for Lafell and AE, fine. But it isn't just that; it is Boldin and a huge contract. Not making that move may allow us to keep one of the best backs in the league this offseason. Plus like you said Lafell and Edwards might be good, you don't know with draft picks.

No I am talking about our actual team as a team and not demanding we give away future flexibility for one position that might not help us much at all now or anytime soon.

huge contracts.. omfg... lol Cause Peppers was worth 18 mil, right..

we will be paying a WR, that is a solid #1, a big contract.. get used to that idea... if we don't.. it means our WRs are average at best.. and we'll be lucky to get a few average WRs any time soon..

and if you say we don't need it now.. we ARE NOT REBUILDING.. we have a good chance to do something this year if we had some WRs to throw the ball..

we do not need to wait 5 years before we sign a good WR.. .lol
