I gotta admit...

I am one who believes if Matt Moore is healthy, he should be starting.

But I have to admit...

I am excited thinking about the possibilities of having a 'real' starting QB. Okay. 'real' is not the right word, but 'highly touted'. Granted, I still thought Moore could also be that guy, and I still think he can.

I think what I am trying to say, is that I am excited for the excitement. Jimmy may not be the great QB that we want, but maybe, just maybe... Sunday can be the day we look back on, and say " I remember Ole' Jimmy's first game, He ___________"

I am trying not to make another thread about starting Moore or Clausen, but I am not arguing who to start.

If Jimmy is named the starter, I understand that the bad environmental factors for Panthers QB's such as bad play calling, only one receiver, and porous O-line play. But sometimes, those things tend to work themselves out, and sometimes those things just get better with someone else running the show.

If you dont wanna read everything and just skimmed read this:

I still think Moore should start if healthy, but as a fan of a team without superior talent at QB for years. I am excited about the potential for growth and evolution of our offense. Whether its under, Fox/Davidson or not.

Clausen has the potential to be to the Panthers what Steve Young / Joe Montana / Troy Fagboy was to their teams.

Haters on here need to realize this is the first time in our history we have a QB with this much potential, that isn't a 30 year old rookie, and embrace the Clausome for what he will bring to this franchise; Respectability and notoriety!

He will be the Tony Homo of the Carolinas in a couple of years!

With that said, I still wish he had a decent Vet QB to look up to and learn from…ala Aaron Rodgers!

I think your point if fair. Jimmy Clausen is the real deal. Will he play like a rook on Sunday if he starts? Most likely. We saw Sam Bradford put up the same stats as Moore... 1 TD and 3 PICKS. But when it's a rookie playing you don't feel like the game is a total waste. You get excited that the rook is learning from his mistakes and sooner or later the experience will benefit the entire team in a big way. For some reason, even though Moore is still a young QB, he's past the point of getting that break from the fans except of course from some on this forum. Everyone else expects him to execute now, no excuses. And as I keep saying, as soon as he does all of this quarterback talk will be over.

A lot of those expectations of Matt are unwarranted by false pretences for people on this forum...

Here I'll break it down;

"Matt finished off the season 4-1"

"Matt has 8 TD passes to 2 INT's"

etc, you get the point.

What these same people are overlooking are the teams Matt actually played and the "position" those same teams where in when Matt played them. Coupled with the fact that Matt is relatively an Unknown and wasn't game planned for he got away with a lot of things he no longer will. IMO, and we know what that is worth, Matt has one quality win...Minn.

Matt has shown this preseason and thus far the first game what Fox saw since he has been here, thus being the 3 option in the QB rotation EVERY YEAR!

I wish Matt the best of luck but he really doesn't deserve the bashing he receives from some people here as it wasn't him that over hyped himself, it was the fans!

I admitt, I'm one of them and I really need to cut it out as well!

There's some valid discussion here without bashing and I like it...I like it a lot.

The thing you mentioned about Clausen in the first post is important imo. If he does end up playing Sunday, & playing well for that matter, should we let him play Foxball and be part of our limited offense and playbook that could potentially stall his development as a solid NFL qb? I say it depends on how vulnerable he is mentally...which I think is not a problem with this kid. He's got the knowledge and confidence to know the situation here well and underztand who and what he's working with.

That’s a very good question and the reason I wish he had a Vet to learn how to be an NFL QB from, unfortunately, we don't have that.

I can say, homer glasses on, I don't recall seeing a rookie straight out of college with the pocket presence this kid has! He will make mistakes but he is very mobile and doesn't take hits behind the line of scrimmage.

Putting him in early could hurt him, no doubt. If he actually gets the start, I guess time will tell

I agree completely with what you are saying about clausen. I hope all works out for moore, but i too am excited to be excited.

the only thing that worries me about clausen is that he is so hesitant to throw the ball. I noticed it during the preseason and with the two passes he attempted sunday. maybe it's the WR's fualt for not being able to get open, but he seems like he is thinking way too much when he drops back before he makes a decision.

might just be because he's a rookie though.

I also think that Clausen is the real deal. However, I am nervous about throwing the kid to the wolves too quickly. Many young QB's do not recover from that.

If our OL plays like they did Sunday, that is a tough situation for a rookie QB to be trust into.

I want to see what he has, but do not want to ruin the kid.

Tough call.

He was thrown to the wolves by Charlie Weis at ND via an offensive line that was actually worse than Carolina's right now.

For Clausen a lot of this is mechanical. You read his interviews... he doesn't get emotional or even nervous about playing. He genuinely seems excited to go out and play asap. The confidence he has from being groomed by Weis is pretty valuable all things considered.

Also happy to see Charlie get his first W in a while yesterday. Great Cheifs win over Bolts.

I look at what Weis did with Brady and think about Clausens time under him and I get chills!
