I agree Godfrey played bad and that Martin should be manning that spot. But his 2 INTs this week will keep him there.

I give him credit for getting pressure but unfortunately "almost" sacks don't count.

The one play where he spin moved in-place was epic.

Our safeties got tested immediately in that game and there was no hiding what we had or didnt have. Coughlin pressed down on that spot and pretty much didnt let up all game. Good thing Martin did ok.

Unfortunately there was no one inside when manning stepped up in the pocket.

Agreed. Our front is fine...stopping the run. The Panther's De's are fine at stopping the run and rushing the pass. Our DT's do suck vs. the pass so it seemed. They had one good play but they should have collapsed the middle more often. Manning had a superb game. If he had adequate wide receivers that could at least catch a ball that hit them in the hands they would have one by at least 1 more touchdown if not two. The lost secondary could be to blame for this too though.

Still I don't think this kind of play from the Panther's DT will continue. Hopefully they can figure out what went wrong and the secondary can figure out what the hell they are doing period.

im just gonna chalk it up to the D getting tired (except godfrey... AND marshall come to think of it, theyll bounce back). we were getting turnovers and got pressure early on in the pass game as well. there is no reason we should have been passing so often with such great field position from kick offs and turnovers. j stew had 10 too few carries.

I know this sunday wasn't exactly our best football and we looked sloppy. But, I think we need to address our DT situation. I'm not concerned about our DE's soo much because there was plenty of times i saw them get around the corner but our DTs gave no push and allowed Eli to step up in the pocket and have all day to throw.

Our run defense looked good so I suggest send Hayden worthless butt packing and sign Damione Lewis to come in on passing downs where he was the most effective for us. I don't want to hear all this youth movement crap or JR being cheap when contracts aren't even guarunteed after week 1.

For this D we want the DTs to be the space-eaters in the middle. They are the guys that don't give up any ground. The responsibility of pressure is reliant on the DEs and LBs outside of the occasional blitz. As it was, the line did a phenomenal job of taking away the run. The secondary simply dropped their end of the bargain and contributed heavily to costing us the game.

A lot of people are piling on Godfrey for poor play (and there were a couple of stand-out plays), but Marshall and Gamble were the biggest offenders by far. Between missing their assignments and flat out letting WRs get behind them when there was no other play in front of them was inexcusable. IF they do their job, Manning is either scrambling or taking a coverage sack as our Dline was not more than a step or two from taking him down when those throws were made. Manning and his coaching staff simply did a good job of exploiting those weaknesses quickly when the rain game them the in-line running advantage and our DBs were losing their feet even more.

Personally I felt it was just the secondary having a dodgy day.

All through the pre-season we got consistent pressure throughout, from various places and from different players. So I would be hesitant to just declare the DL being poor at rushing the passer.

However our corners were doing exactly what everyone was hoping for last season and that is to play very tight man coverage. Unfortunately they gave up plays in doing so and if they made a mistake it was simply magnified because they couldn't recover in time. Godfrey really did not help and was responsible for at least 2-3 big passing plays.

If your secondary is not performing then it's tough to get pressure. How often did Eli actually have to hold onto the football longer than 2-3 seconds?
