The "Jeff Davidson sucks" mantra.

We only had like 6 pass attempts until that last drive in the 2nd quarter. It was definitely not until we got way behind that we were only throwing.

Nah, we had multiple redzone shots when we were either up or down less than a TD. No matter the spin, there is just no excuses for the playcalling. Carolina is just like the 2009 team......a running team that simply won't commit to the run.

Fans will grasp at any straws to put blame on Fox.

Fox will be gone after this year anyways, if you believe what is written.

That being said, the head coach of a team doesn't do the play calling, unless he is a coach of that perticular scheme. Fox is a defensive minded coach. An offensive man, he never has been, and never will be. He does believe in running the ball, cause its the hardest to defend, and it leads to more ball control. So, yes any OC here will have to believe in running the ball. That doesn't mean he controls the play calling. But who cares, right? Blame fox anyway.

Davidson has not, and does not mix the play calling. He makes henning look like a creative genius.

What is sad, many of you would be happy/content with davidson as our head coach.

Fox hasn't developed the scheme. That is laughable. He does want the offense to run the ball and use play action pass. Its up the the oc to develop the plays and play calling. While fox is the head coach, he still allows his oc to do his job.

And for those who think the scheme has remained unchanged between henning and davidson, obviously don't pay close attention. While part of the playbook was a carryover...there is obvious changes. But I know, if all we do is run the ball and throw smoke passes..its the same. Lol

Regardless of who is at fault for the play calling, I like the fact that we seem to be passing more. If this is really a rebuilding year and we expect ANY of our QB's to get experience, we have to see ugly games like that unless the FO is planning on bringing in a veteran.

Yeah it sucked and yeah I am frustrated like most others, but many pretty much agreed in the offseason that this would be a tank year anyway, so yeah let the kid (whether Moore or Clausen) get out there and make ugly plays, mistakes, and get their experience up. We can never have a decent QB from rookie status (or near rookie) if we are handing the ball off 80% of the time.

So all over this thread, there are those who are saying that Davidson sucks, and they provide example after example of why they think so. The defenders have been reduced to saying, "nuh-uh!" and "STFU".

If you think Davidson is great, how about making a case? Can anyone here point to something he's accomplished that suggests he's better than any of the other OCs in the league?

Frankly, I doubt it. But I figure it's fair to at least ask.

First of all, is Davidson great? The answer is no. With that one out of the way lets proceed.

Does he suck? The answer is also no and here is why.

Points scored which is the only stat that matters.

Last year of Henning- 2006 ranked 27th

Best year under Henning 2005- ranked 8th

First year of Davidson- 2007- 26th

2nd year of Davidson- 2008- 7th

3rd year of Davidson- 2009- 21st

4th year of Davidson- 2010 after 1 game- 13th

So the fact is that our offense is not great but about the same as it was under Henning.

Do we have more talent under Davidson? Linewise- not really, too many injuries and shuffling around under Davidson.

Running backs? Definitely

QB- you could argue that outside of the games Moore played and 2008 when Jake was up and down, you could argue the quarterback play was worse not better.

Wide receiver- Up and down really. But you definitely wouldn't say that our group is talented at that spot right now.

TEs- better talent than Henning had but still seems underutilized.

I think we saw Davidson's offense in 2008. In 2007 we had a tremendous amount of quarterback turnover and the offense was pared down on purpose. In 2008 we saw what Davidson could do in the running game and passing game.

In 2009 we saw it again the last 5 games when Moore was in there. Before that Jake was too inconsistent for a whole bunch of conclusions to be made.

Was playcalling terrible against New York?? Should we have run more?? Sure folks point to Williams and say he got 62 yards on 16 carries but if you account for the 29 yard scamper the other 15 times he gained 33 or 2 yards a carry. All day we had 24 attempts rushing. Should we have done more? It netted us 2 first downs- one on William's run and one on Moore's scramble. That's it.

Why didn't we run from the goal line when we had first and goal? Because we got stuffed running the ball earlier in the game on 2nd and 3rd and short. And in general we got stuffed most of the day running the ball.

So for better or worse we threw the ball. And if you take the stupid picks away, we were competitive all day until the 4th quarter. It really wasn't Davidson's fault and while he is not a great coordinator, he doesn't suck either.

Maybe it was obvious because Matt Moore couldn't hit the blind side of a barn 75% of the time and we were forced to be one-dimensional until we got like 15 points behind but idk.

Or just maybe..... it was cause they knew what we were running. A two TE I form says one thing. We used it all day with no success then abandoned the run game all together cause the I form was not working.

Honestly if you can't run with a 2 TE, power I formation then you just can't run. We would be better off swinging guys out of the backfield and running screens then. But a big part of the problem was the offensive line getting no push all day.

This is a FOX thing. Jeff Davidson makes me realize that Dan Henning is a wayy better offensive Coordinator then he is...Henning at least got the ball in his playmakers hands a lot....smoke outs..reverses, motion....

Henning also knew the situation...red zone = run! Your telling me DeShaun Foster got the ball no matter what and now that we have D-lo and J Stew ...he passes with a below average passing game.....im bout to get into a bullet fueled rage!

John Fox...destroyer of media soundbites, Offensive coodinators, young QBs and no.2 recievers..... We deserve someone that expects better.
