I'm looking forward to Otah's return. Not so Schwartz is no longer starting at RT, but in anticipation of him starting at RG. Maybe once we have the two of them, Davidson might be persuaded to see how Stewart does with 10+ carries in a game.

LOL but that would just make too much since. We need more deep routes with heavy pass rush on the other side.

The skill sets are not THAT different, Wharton has handled the change mid-season without missing a beat.

The skill sets are not all that similar either. In-line blocking is different from blocking guys coming off the edge. Angles, technique, responsibilities are much different. Personally, I think Schwartz could eventually be a solid Guard, but not with the limited exposure he has had to the position thus far.

What makes anyone think Schwartz can even play RG?

You do realize he's never played the position, don't you? At RG, he's a project. And while he eventually might be able to play the position, that time is not now. The team was going to give him a look there this offseason, and he did get some time with the starters in OTA's when they rotated time with the 1's between all three options (Schwartz, Bernadeau, and Robinson), but beyond that, he's primarily been working at RT. So not only is he inexperienced at RG, he hasn't even had much time to work on improving at Guard. So, if he does eventually move there, I don't think there is any chance it will be this year.

You say that like he's Armanti Edwards, switching from QB to WR!!! Lol

If A.E. can switch over and be the dominate and amazing player that he has become there is no doubt in my mind that Schwartz can slide over one spot and keep doing what he's been doing. The skill set between the T and G positions isn't very different.

As has been pointed out, he practiced there this offseason.

For my part, I didn't actually think Schwartz was that great yesterday, but then I wasn't especially impressed by anyone on the O-line (sad to say).

From what I've seen of him, it wouldn't surprise me if he were a better inside blocker than outside.

That sounds good in general, but his practice there was only limited since he spent the bulk of his time working at RT, and he still has not had any game time at RG...not in college, not in the NFL, never. So how in the world can anyone say he is even a competent Guard, let alone a starting quality one? There are a lot of guys that practice every day at RG, yet I wouldn't want them anywhere near this team. But for some reason, some people here throw out his name at RG as if it is a forgone conclusion that he will/should move there when Otah comes back, despite not having a clue whether he can even play the position or not.

Like I said, I think he can eventually be a decent RG, but I just don't get why some want to throw him in there as soon as possible...unless it's just the proverbial "the grass is greener" scenerio, which is about as poor a reason to make a decision as I can think of.

To get him away from playing tackle, for one :sosp:

(not saying that's definitely valid, just pointing out a reason)

Some guys are just better inside - lateral quickness, or lack of, for example - and Schwartz might be one of those.

I agree that Schwartz may be better inside. My only issue is that I don't believe he has had enough practice or game time to be ready this year. Next year is more feasable, IMO (assuming Otah doesn't have another injury).
