Foxball

I've read three magazines this season so far. One was SI's season preview, one was a Fantasy Football rag, the other was a season preview mag. All three stressed how the league is now a passing league. All three said running to set up the pass...no longer works. All three said if you don't pass...you will lose.

Yes, a run first, smash mouth D team can go all the way. But it's usually the pass happy team that wins the trophy. In order for you to go the other route, your entire team HAS TO BE OUTSTANDING. We...are not.

Fox is simply stubborn. Sure, the Giants were in Prevent (I think) when we got our TD, and later before the INT (the drive where DJ got his grabs), but it does show you we DO have the ability to let Moore sling it around. But Foxy wants to win every game 10-7. And we all see what happens when we get behind. We lose. Fox, why don't you get UP by a few scores early by passing? Then you can grind it out, run the clock out, and slow the game down. Our style can't beat the likes of the Patriots, the Colts, the Texans, the Bengals, the Chargers, the Cowboys, the Packers, the Saints, etc. And guess what? We're not the Ravens or the Jets or Steelers for many reasons.

One day things will be right in Carolina. One day.

I think one of the reasons JR gave Fox a young group this year is to expose Fox and see if he's worth keeping or not. To see if it's his philosophy or if it was the players that were bad last season. It's like giving Fox a bunch of robots and programming his philosophy into them. The young guys will do what he says. If what he says fails, then he lets Fox walk. If what he says works, he'll extend Fox. So far it looks like Fox is failing hard.

My biggest concern is that this goes even higher. Yes, Fox is directly responsible for the current trainwreck that we see year in and year out. But JR shares his philosophy, and will likely hire Fox 2.0 to replace him. As you said, even a similar minded coach will do at least something different. We can only hope. Right now, I know know what Cleveland and Detroit fans feel like.

Its pretty evident to see that players and coaches have been swapped out and we have the same results (and playbook) with one constant 'Foxball'. I've been sick of it for awhile but its not going to change until hes gone. We just never seem prepared and never execute. Next week is going to be the same... don't get excited. Be nice if we could have picked up Shanahan but I know football is a business and Jer doesnt want to pay next year... and i'm not paying either, financially or emotionally. I'll root for my boys to win every week but until his @ss is gone I'm going to chill with low expectations.

...this style of play does work....when employed properly...not abandoning the run leading the ballgame in the 2nd half, not executing in the secondary and having the o-line completely cave in...

yes. this style of play does work, but has little to no margin of error. and contrary to popular belief the run wasnt abandoned it was just stuffed. that will happen to a run game every now and then.
