Panthers/Giants Overview

So I haven't posted here in a long time, went to a few tailgates and use to be very active during training camp...now for the most part just read but decided to post something today...

...And I know that I should wait 24 hours to post anything because everything is spammed and troll'd after a loss but hey haven't done it in a while....

Didn't get a chance to watch the game live, was working but I DVR'd it, so here is how I see things today.

First Quarter

The Giants defense looked like they were daring the Panthers offense to throw the ball, but when you only have one proven wide receiver why wouldn't you? Any one else notice a former Panther who looked decent in pass defense?

Kasay still has a good leg in him at least for right now. We keep it up he won't though.

On the first Giants touchdown. Total miscommunication between Marshall and Godfrey. Who to blame it on? No idea unless someone knows exactly what play call was called, or can watch film from a birds eye few. But it seemed like Marshall expected help on top which is very common in cover 2 defense correct? (I may be wrong). But it seemed to me like it was a very common problem when we had Lucas and Godfrey on the same side.

Second Quarter

Defense looked good so far. Linebacker core makes me feel very comftorable for the next couple years even if we decide to not keep Davis (which i would be sad about but it happens)

Maybe Gamble is starting to age and with age comes lack of speed? It did look like he lost his feet a few times but when playing man you can't let that happen. At least we know the Panthers practice their tip drills, secondary looked good when the ball has been tipped and batted down.

(Anybody else noticed Goddell "talking to fans" in the box suites in the second half? Thought that was funny)

It seemed like the Panthers offense was trying so hard to spread the Giants defense out so hard about half way through the second half. Like I said earlier they were daring them to throw the ball. When we had Moose and Smith we rarely had three-four wide out sets, we were running these first and second down to try and open the box for our running game.

The running defense looked good so far the second quarter, if you told me earlier in the year that Ed Johnson and Louis Leanord(sp?) would be clogging up the middle and not miss a beat I would have laughed.

Actually using Mike Goodson in the passing game is encouraging, but time and time again the Giants defense just kept stacking the box and would let Williams break a run (he isn't superman as much as I wish was).

On the second Touchdown (which I haven't seen many people bitch about but I digress) Captain was in terrible position and that what happens when you have Hicks man on man with someone a whole head shorter than Captain.

Smith is Smith that's all I have to say.

Third Quarter

Panthers defense just kept slipping and falling. Anyones fault? Not really but its football...man up. Giants seemed to have changed their game plan. Running more with Jacobs...something we have never seen? No not really should have been able to adjust quicker. Conner has such a natural feel for playing MLB which makes Davis being gone so much easier.

Matt Moore just looked so out of synch with his receivers expect with the one pass to Smith in the first half. Once the Giants got the Panthers starting in there own twenty, the offense just crumbled and pressed the panic button and kept throwing. The Panthers had to pass though because of the Giants stacking eight in the box. Why not try to make Matt do some bootlegs (which is a common thing from him in the past) to make the defense back off? You could tell the rain was starting to affect the game, very uncharacteristic drop from Smith.

Bad snap was a turning point. Slick football or not you can't let it happen when your job is nothing but to snap the ball.

Gamble slipping again on a slick surface. I've played on a surface similar and it is very hard to run quickly with when wet but still. Marshall against slips in Man coverage and lets Giants score...seems like a trend for this game.

Four Quarter

Panthers seems once again...like they are unable to adapt. Growing trend but its nothing new/surprising to me. Panthers defense just looked tired/and wore down. Even though T.O.P. is almost the same, Godfrey looked scared when Bradshaw just broke a big run....why did we trade Harris again? :( Pretty sad when Marshall can actually catch back up to Bradshaw and make a tackle before Godfrey can. The name of the game for the Panthers defense is speed. When its wet and they slip/over commit, they are done.

Once the Giants knew that we had to throw, the game is over. Panthers o-line was just to slow to keep up with the pass rush. Matt was all over the place running for his life. He actually did pretty good sometimes throwing it away to avoid a sack...but right after that its a sack. Jarret made an apprence, good to welcome him to the game, right after Lefell made a typical play....but right after that Johnson had Lefell all in a bear hug...should have been a call. Play calling wasn't bad for the Panthers at the start of the 4th quarter...but you can't expect for a Panthers quarter back to throw for the whole second half, we just aren't built for that. After two good catches with jarret...the one where he got jammed up...terrible totally looked like he was walking to try and make the catch.

Going 4 wideouts inside the five makes me sick. Yeah you threw the ball great for the whole drive but with 9 minutes left you have time to try and pound the rock. Anyone think that we would not have seen Stewart or Williams hardly at all in the second half? Terrible read by Matt Moore in the redzone. Trying to make a play when he is expected to throw the whole drive? Great play calling....

Once again Matt Moore forcing it looking like Jake Delhomme of last year. Just trying to make a play. Can't blame him, he is trying but you cant constantly do the same thing over and over. Comes to preparation and play calling. Lol at Jeff Davidson face palming two drives in a row, and the announcers mocking him.

When was the last time you remember the Panthers special teams making a big play? To bad it was little to late.

All in all terrible day but hopefully it will get better....
