Calm Down

Before you read this take a deep breath, and relax. Jesus, I know the huddle tends to overreact but you act like we are winnless in week ten. Alright let me first point out that this is week 1 and we were winning at half time. Secondly, everyone loses at some point. Heck even the Colts are 0-1 at this point. It's going to be alright. Let's look at some negatives then positives of this game.

Negatives:

-Let's just get it out of the way Matt Moore. Sorry kid but today just wasn't your day. At some points you looked good. Passes to Smitty, a couple of smart check-down throws, and a couple of good scrambles. But throwing three picks in the red zone is inexcusable. You will not win a football game doing that. The funny thing is if someone had told me that before the game I would have expected us to get blown out. (and no 13 points is not a blow out) The o-line played pretty terrible in the second half and are tight-ends didn't help either. It was wet out there but Nicks and Manning didn't seem to notice.

-Secondary and D-line. I'll start with the d-line because one sack is not going to cut it. True to our fears a great preseason does not equal a great real season. Manning had way too much time throwing the ball and when you have Smith, Manningham, and Nicks somebody is bound to get open. Secondary looked pretty bad today too. Some easy picks off tipped balls (should have had another two more but Captain and Beason dropped them), but overall a really poor effort today. Every single one of our corners screwed up pretty bad at some point or another. Gamble missed tackle on touchdown run. Munneryln couldn't carry Nick's jockstrap, and Marshall gave up a touchdown early.

-Play calling- I like being aggressive when we are down two scores, but really first and goal at the four and you don't give the ball to Stewart. Hell the entire second half we hardly ran the ball. Jeff Davidson's poor play calling in the second half has to share the blame with the turnovers. Side note, but not going for a two point conversion at the end of half also annoyed me.

Now on to the positives and believe me there were some:

-Steve Smith is back. Nuff said this is a completely different team without him.

-Mike Goodson had a great game today. Solid kick returns and played great on offense. He really showed some grit blocking those G-men.

-Special teams in general looked a lot better today than they did last year. except for Jansen's bad snap, I can't fault their efforts at all.

-First half run Defense. Wow and I thought this was going to be our weakest link. We played fantastic in the first half, but as young teams tend to do we let our guard down a little in the second. It's week one though I expect that to be fixed up pretty quickly.

-Greg Hardy. He didn't come up with the sacks today, but the forced fumble and blocked punt were huge. I really like this kid and his attitude seems just fine to me.

-Not quitting- I know I gave up on us after that first pick in the fourth quarter, but our defense and special teams came out and didn't give up. Down two scores in a hostile environment it would have been easy to just let the Giants run down the clock. But we held strong and gave it our best effort.

Bottom line: Somebody was going to have to take a tough loss today. We had some bad turnovers and really strayed away from running the ball in the second half. If we keep the turnovers to a minimum, run the ball effectively, and tighten up in the secondary (which will be easier Giants are pretty good at throwing the ball) we should be able to win some ball games. The Giants are a good team. People easily forget that before injuries last year they started out on fire. I expect them to have a good run this year, just like us.

Finally, stop the Clausen talk just stop. Stop the Delhomme 2.0 or why did we get rid of Delhomme? Its sickening really. Moore is 6-3 as a career starter and just lost his cool on opening day against a good defense. He has a lot of pressure on him and just didn't perform today. Up to this point its been a "nothing to lose" attitude and now he has something to lose. Will he improve by next week at home verse the lowly bucs? Definitely but until he goes half the season with repeated terrible games please stop making threads about bringing in Clausen. It really is a terrible idea. Think about it. Clausen is a second round pick rookie. He will get his chance, no doubt. It makes sense to give Moore (which we got for nothing practically) a chance to prove himself. If Moore fails then bring in Clausen. But if Clausen fails and Moore never got his chance in Carolina then the Panthers are royally screwed.

It's a loss deal with it. There are plenty of examples of teams starting out slow and coming on strong at the end of the season. We are a very young team that can only get better.

Nah, we have seen ths scenario time and time again with this team. I do not want to hear the excuse that they have given themselves (on purpose) that this is a young team to save their jobs. If this year's excuse is that this is a young team what was the excuse last year? Time for Fox and Hurney to go.

If you're happy with struggling to 8-8 while a division member celebrates a Super Bowl win then today was not that disappointing for you. I really can't believe that this franchise at this stage of its existence goes into a season with a QB who is probably a practice squad guy. We're like an expansion team right now. Its sad.

Oh please. Stop being a fanboy. There is no reason to "Calm down". We just took a loss to an in-conference team, and now start in the hole. I love my Panther's but I'm gonna be honest here. We looked exactly like what we are. A team of rookies and backups.

Additional Negatives:

There was crap protection for the QB... 4 sacks for -34 yards = horrible.

Our running game was a joke... held to 89 yards. What the f**k happened to Stewart? He had 12 yards!!!

Our 2nd half Defense fell the f**k apart. 110 Rushing yards in the 2nd half by New York alone, not to mention another 90 passing. Yeah... our Preseason D was just that... Preseason D. These backups and rookies aren't gonna get it done.

Our secondary... god... our secondary was garbage.... I lost count of how many plays where they were just standing the hell around. 263 total passing yards and 3 TDs. Yeah we had a few interceptions, but they were all useless considering the TDs and yardage they gave up... and never mind the deep running they let go on. Were they hitting a bong on the sideline? Horrible.

The Giants are a an "OK" team, but even at that, they were facing some losses due to injury, and had rookies too. There's no excuse for what happened today. None. When you walk away from a game saying "Our Special Teams looked good" your team just gave one of the worst performances they could have.

I'd like to say we will bounce back... but if Clausen is really going to start next week... we're screwed. Not because he's a bad QB, but because he's a rookie, and the team will lack veteran leadership. I hate it too, because I think he could be a really good QB... but not taking snaps behind the O-line as it stands.

yea we are done. We only play 1 game seasons now. every team that is 1-0 is going to the Super Bowl, and every team that is 0-1 should set fire to their team headquarters

If we can't beat a dinged up Giants team, I don't have confidence that this team could beat anyone on our schedule except the Rams and the Seahawks.

Apart from them, I see about 8 shoe-in losses, and about 6 other games that could go either way. Splitting them down the middle, that's a 5-11 record in my book. I guessed 7-9 in my sig... maybe I guessed too high.

First off all what the hell are you talking about fanboy? I'm not happy about this loss at all. But when people have meltdowns about one bad game there is a reason to calm down. Your right the running game didn't do so hot today, which means we should win every single game the running game shows up and we limit our turnovers. Rep to whoever said we lost this game and the giants didn't win it I forgot to add that. Like I said we can only go up from here and if you really fail to see the logic than you are a terrible fan.

I also forgot to add that the Giants should not have had a field goal and possibly another touchdown due to wrong calls by the officials. Field goal (4th down run) and touchdown (Nicks was juggling that ball clearly as he went out of bounds) Take away that and the score is 21-18

Well, on the bright side, if they play as bad as the played today, high draft choices, and new coaches all around, and it's time and a wide open salary cap. I would say that would make this team attractive to any coach.

I'd like to say i'm being facetious but I'm not. 10 years of this is enough.

There is enough of a core there to build on....and I think they ought to retool that O-line a bit, seems to me Gross is not the same Gross, and Otah, well, an early 20 something with no meniscus in the knee doesn't bode well.

It's time for a fresh start for this team and it isn't going to come this year. Nothing changes, why go through the litany.

This year, I'll just enjoy the games and have no expectations as clearly, it will only be frustating to have them.
