At the half: Panthers 16, Giants 14

Who knew?

In the second quarter, the defense began to leak, and QB Matt Moore moved the team sharply downfield, to take a 16-14 halftime lead over the Giants.

Moore wasn't particularly sharp early, 3-of-9 passing for 32 yards and an interception.

But on the final drive of the half, he looked at ease, completing 4-of-5 passes for 50 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown pass to Steve Smith.

That's the first time the offense has found the end zone this summer, after a preseason drought.

The Panthers gave up a few downfield passes to the Giants, but keep getting their hands on as many.

LB James Anderson had an interception, after LB Jon Beason and CB Captain Munnerlyn had balls ping off their hands in a five-play sequence.

The Panthers are going to create more turnovers if coordinator Ron Meeks gets his guys on the Jugs machine after practice.

Of course, they looked sloppy late in the period, with back-to-back pass interference calls setting up a 19-yard touchdown to Hakeem Nicks, which seemed to get the crowd interested before Moore hit his stride.
