First quarter: Giants 7, Panthers 3

There were moments in the first quarter when the Panthers resembled a professional offense.

But they still don't have a touchdown, and they trailed New York 7-3 after one.

There were a few nice runs by DeAngelo Williams, and Matt Moore even completed a few passes to Steve Smith. But they stumbled close, settling for a 22-yard John Kasay field goal with 3:42 left.

The Giants responded with a 68-yard touchdown drive, capped by a 26-yard touchdown pass to Hakeem Nicks.

On that one and the 31-yard pass to Mario Manningham two plays earlier, a Panthers corner ended up looking confused about the coverage, discussing it with FS Charles Godfrey.

Otherwise, their run defense continued to look stout, and they even made a few special teams plays.

WR Charly Martin left the game after taking a shot to the head on an earlty punt play. He was actually whacked by teammate Marcus Hudson. They declared him "shaken up" and said his return would be questionable.
