then I can't take you seriously (if your point is you don't need a #2)... unless of course your point is we have a lot of holes, which then, I just don't agree..

I think our only huge hole IS in fact a solid #2... and we could have had better than "solid" this offseason...

Nah man, I am just one of the few who actually believe we have the talent on this team to have a solid number 2.

We dont need big $ locked up in a #2 deceiver when we are a running team.

minus Housh.

How many years did Reid up in Philly draft 1st and 2nd round WR by the boat load all to have none of them pan out until D. Jackson?

your trying to prove your point that "never give up" eventually leads to success.. what I'm saying is, you could have had an instant upgrade and out smarted the great Andy Reid..

#1 money is getting paid regardless..

as it is now, we will have to wait to develop a true #1 and wait 3 years at least... or we could have one now..

do you really think the latter isn't the better choice?

well, we simply disagree.. I think LaFell can be solid.. but we could have had 2 #1s (Smitty and FA) and LaFell and Jarrett..

I don't see how that is a bad idea when the cap isn't goign to take any different of a hit now or in 3 years when we have to pay the "talent" we have now... (if they are successful.. thats a big if)

I don't see how that doesn't make sense..

money gone = regardless..

whether now or later down the road...

I dont think we have the #2 this year... so we have to wait, (IMO)

if I'm wrong, thank god, it only took forever to draft a WR... but I doubt it happens this year...

and obviously the FO feels the same as you.. and so we see why we've had a horrible WR corp.. forever.

Armanti is a HUGE project, I am not putting him in any category just yet. Fact is, this FO doesn't draft and develop WRs. They just don't. LBs and RBs seem to be their specialty. Only a fool would be contempt with the WRs as they are now for this season. We are just hoping someone steps up.

My whole point is no team should have to be doomed to fail due to ONE injury, that is just too risky. If smith gets injured however, this season will be over I promise you.

BB you can have all the talent you want but without actual development (that takes more than just a season) you can do nothing with the talent. Armanti for example has talent but he's not developed so he's worthless right now. Unless you believe this season's purpose is developing them and not winning, becasue you'd have to be unrealistically lucky to achieve both.

Boldin I just don't think was worth the money for a team that doesn't throw the ball that much.

Housh would have been nice.

i think we would throw more if we had better targets. this team was really talking about and working towards opening up the passing game. several players were talking about it. the only problem is that we don't really have any good WR options to throw to other than smith. apart from him all we have is potential you know how many bags of chips potential can buy me?

hopefully one of these young guys steps up and i hope all of them gets a real shot.

Not so easy. Boldin cost 2010 3rd and 4th round picks. We already didn't have a 1st round pick this year.

I realize your point.. but to expand on what others always seem to bring up as problems... that doesn't prove it was impossible.. smart people figure out solutions.. that's why half this forum will never accomplish poo in real life.. all they see are problems..

(no offense to anyone.. ;))

Kurb, I never thought you and I would be so far apart on an opinion.

Let's wait until how the season plays out. And let's see what the long game brings. I don't buy that he's tanking the season to save money, I think he feels good about his team. And I think that we're in a position to re-sign all our guys if need be, even if the salary cap goes down 20%.

I would have loved to see another Keyshawn-style signing, it would be fun to talk about and it could have brought some excitement. But it didn't happen, and if memory serves that one didn't work out well anyway.

Apparently your reading comprehension is garbage. Just because I don't agree with his business practices and express my displeasure with how a year has been handled thus far doesn't mean I don't appreciate the owner. Sadly he is off my Christmas Card list and you might be too with that raping of the powerful tool known as sarcasm you just posted.:spam:

Just to be fair to us both, I am Jewish...celebrate Hunnukah and I heard that JR has a seasonal crew that reads his cards and then shreds them for Greenpeace Initiative, so doubt he'll miss his.

To your accusations about my sarcasm...I really did not recall quoting you, and deeply appologize for staking you waaay out of context. Since I have PSL owner friends who hate my stinginess, and now prolly envy it, I just really wonder how we "Carolinians" of every geographics got a team, but know they did not come cheap or easy, I went to the two "phantom games in Chapel Hill & Raleigh. I do have respect for JR, but feel we missed our SB window not winning it the next year! I blame some decisions about that on him.

I earned some sarcasm, back door or straight, by being devoted to the team, and paying my fair share here and there. I never meant a personal attack to anyone onthis matter, but sure saw the diversions and anger for what may/may not be a worthy effort this year. I wonder how some have it all figured out? The blame that is!

Yes.

Let us pretend that they do get a CBA done and the cap is about where it already is supposed to be according to the old CBA.

We re-sign Beason, Kalil, Marshal, and Johnson. Matt Moore has a breakout year and we sign him too. That means Davis and Williams are gone. Godfrey, Connor, Leonard, Anderson, Otah, Stewart, King, Bernadeu, and Brayton would all also be up for new contracts/extensions. Those are secondary so we won't fret them too much.

That is a lot of players to re-sign/extend. The cap is not magically going to be $200,000,000 it is going to be on par to what it already was. There is not a lot of money left in there for a guy like Boldin or Marshall.
