Sure, but my question is "Isn't that a pretty big gamble ?" For us yea. For JR who gets 100's of millions no matter what our record, not really.

Like I said if the diabolical plan works, someone bump this thread and I will tell everyone I was wrong.

either way is a gamble and would be reason for people starting threads complaining about what could go wrong.

if he were spending money like some of those other teams were doing...over paying for these FA players that have been signed this year then we would have a good bit of complaining as people looked at the long term and saw how much of the cap was burned on these players and that we would be missing out on some great possible FAs next year.

what if we gave someone like miles austin some ridiculous contract (like he got and didn't deserve, imo) only to find out that there wasn't any football next year so we gave ended up giving him $25.5 mil for just one year (unless you count the guaranteed $18mil with it in which case its over $40mil.)

people are going to complain and/or worry about either outcome. the grass is always greener on the other side of the argument.

I feel ya, but to me its better to try and swim to shore and drown, than tread water, hoping for a boat of nypho Marrisa Miller clones to come save you and still drown.

Boldin really would have been the ideal fit here.

But thats another argument.

i actually do agree with that. i also thnk that housh would have been a good addition for the short term. boldin would have been really sweet across from smith for years, though. it would have been hard to find a better and tougher couple of WRs in the league than those two.

i do also wish that we would go ahead and lock those three players up, as well. i don't see any harm whatsoever in that.

we don't have huge holes like those other teams.. I feel pretty good about our team.. but a WR could have been addressed this year with 2 great options and we failed, as we have failed the last 6 or 7 years, to bring in a solid receiver..

to say we need to spend like those other teams isn't really what the issue is.. we could have brought in 1 great FA acquisition...

Kurb had some very valid points but who do ya'll think we should be wrapping up long term right now?

kalil, beason, williams in that order.

maybe charles johnson but that might not be necessary and can probably wait to find out.

beyond that we will be fine either way.

Beason is in the 4th year of his 5 year rookie contract.

Ryan Kalil, expect to see him wearing the Franchise Tag next year at a bargain price.

Deangelo Williams, this will be a toughie. William's health after this year, Stewart's long term health outlook will all figure into whether he's resigned.

It would be stupid to sign any of these guys long term right now from a business stand point, although it would give the fans a warm and fuzzy feeling.

okay just looked it up, speculation was that Peppers was offered $14 million a season which he turned down(obviously.)

Brandon Marshall's contract guarantees him less money than that per season, and so does Boldins.

I don't think we offered to pack peppers bags much less 14 mill for him to stay. Also Wr =/= De in cash terms

Here is the problem JR really doesn't have to sign a bunch of player's to make this team a competitor. He just needed to snag one of the many viable WR threats to instantly contend this year while still opening up an absurd amount of cap room.

This leads one to believe JR is pinching as much as he possibly can, without care of being competitive.
