Has anyone heard that if Moore does good he will be traded

Yeah, cause I could just see this board if the Panthers start 4-1, Moore's rating is somewhere in the 90s and they trade him.

You laugh, but don't be shocked if he gets off to a good start and some rocket scientist comes up with the bright idea to trade him "while he's got value" and start Clausen :nonod:

So Moore does pretty well this season and we go and Trade him, get something for his worth. Clausen then assumes the position and sucks it up, to everyone's dismay. What then?

This is ridiculous, apparently Moore can't be good this season or he's getting traded, and he can't be bad or he's benched for Clausen. Poor man can't get a break from panther fans

i'm for whoever gives us the best chance to win. i'm a matt moore fan and have been since he showed up here. if clausen can be the guy that takes this team over the top (which i feel he can) then any loyalty to matt moore goes out the window. i'm a panthers fan first and a player fan next.

So what if Moore does poorly, Clausen comes and and doesn't do well either? Do we trade both of them? :)

I am thinking that Moore will end up being our Drew Brees, and Clausen our Phillip Rivers.

If that is even close to being the truth, you cannot imagine how happy I would be. Seriously, I would even start thinking about never bringing up the Brown and Edwards trade up.

Trade isn't possible but getting draft pick compensation is. It works out about the same.

I don't view them the same, but as a practical result, yeah. There's always 'sign and trade", but when you flesh that out a bit, here's what you see...

Scenario 1: Moore does average or poorly, but the team still offers him a high tender

Up front, let's be clear that this is highly unlikely, but for the sake of argument, let's say it happens.

You have here a case of a team requiring an upper round pick in return for an average to below average QB. Al Davis jokes aside, who'd take that deal? Unless you have a situation where someone from Pantherland winds up in power elsewhere (ala Pioli in Kansas City) and thinks they can work with him, you can expect no one will want to give up a pick for a QB that's "just another guy".

Thus, if Moore does average or poorly, the more likely result is the team gives him a low tender or lets him walk. Either way, they get nothing in return. But let's take a look at the other possible outcome...

Scenario 2: Moore does such a solid job that he's deserving of a high tender offer or franchise tag, and someone else signs him

Possible? Sure, but badly flawed, for a couple of reasons.

First off, if you look at the history of free agency since the "franchise tag" was created, you'll find a much higher percentage of tagged players stay with their existing squads than go elsewhere. Truthfully, that's one of the prime purposes of putting the tag on a player.

Teams generally shy away from signing guys like that because the price is too high, especially if they bust. So again, unless you have a Panther guy taking over someone else's front office (and do you realistically see that happening) the likelihood of this taking place is minimal, and that's being generous.

To add to that, if Moore has really played so well that he's actually worthy of a high tender or a franchise tag, then why the heck would the team want to move him? Does anybody really believe that the team is so in love with Jimmy Clausen that they'd trade a franchise quality QB just to elevate Clausen?

Seriously? :sosp:

Make no mistake. I like Clausen and believe he can be the QB of the future, but that tribute to David Carr he put on in this past preseason doesn't exactly make me giddy for his time to come ASAP. The much more ideal scenario is for him to sit a while, ala Aaron Rodgers. The hope is that Moore is good enough to allow that to happen.

If he isn't, then Clausen fans can expect him to start next season, right?

Eeeehhh, not necessarily.

There's also the distinct possibility that the Panthers let Moore walk, but sign a reliable, mid-level veteran from outside (the next Rodney Peete or Jake Delhomme) and Clausen still winds up as the backup, even with Moore out of the way.

Bottom Line: The scenario in the OP is, to be kind, unlikely (bordering on the ridiculous).

To be honest, more than anything else, it sounds like the wishful thinking of a Clausen fan.

In this case, very wishful.

I'm just curious as to when people who follow the Panthers look at Matt Moore as a below average quarterback? Granted he hasn't had a full year to show his abilities, he has had plenty of starts to show he can win (6-2). Ah the power of drafting Jimmy Clausen, gave people fresh blood to believe in...yet he has proven even less in this league than the guy behind the center right now.

Nostradamus once predicted in his journal: "In the century 21st, the one known as Matthew will be the savior of the Fox... five seasons in a row." Moments later, Matt Moore knocked down the door, shot Nostradamus in the kneecaps, and yelled "WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR?!"
