Help with deciding a Defense

I would try and get a top 10 defense, at least. The 49ers were 15th last year, though I suspect under Singultary they will improve.

They may have been 15th by real life stats, but the 49ers had the #1 fantasy scoring D last year. Plus they start off against the Seahawks.

I say you stick with them for now.

Whether or not they were number 1 in scoring depends on your league's scoring system. And, yes, the 49ers were generally ranked fairly high. In my league, the Saints were number 1 because of all the INTs and FFs they had last year, notwithstanding the final score. But, basically, the defenses that are good in real life will equate to being good defenses in fantasy because most leagues will give you more points/yards the less real life points/yards that are scored against your defense. If you look, I am sure that you will find that the Jets, Eagles, Packers, Bengals, Vikings, Steelers are ranked fairly high in your fantasy league, just like real life. It's just being conservative, that's all. The 49ers may do just fine, but I would rather have any of the defenses that I named above.

BTW, I took a chance and dropped the Saints defense this year in favor of the Panthers' (and they are still on the waiver wire as of this writing). Perhaps it's just my disdain for my NFC South rival, but I just don't think that , defensively, lightning will strike in a bottle twice. I looked at the score Thursday, and the Vikings defense outscored the Saints D by 5 points.

It's a roll of the dice.
