DWill has made it clear that he wants to be a Panther. I say just pay the man and keep Double Trouble together as long as possible. Getting rid of possibly our best offensive weapon makes no sense. We gave Foster a second contract, y not DWill?? He missed 3 games last year and was able to obtain 1100 yards against teams that didn't have to respect our passing game cuz of Delhomme.

First of all, if there is no football in 2011, Williams will be 29 years old in the first year of a long-term contract. RBs traditionally hit the wall then. DW has averaged over 5 yards a carry as a starter, but soon the legs go. You all think the past is the way it will be in the future and you are paranoid about the future.

We are LOADED in the backfield. What if you spent the money you would have spent on DW on 2 offensive linemen? Could Stewart, Goodson, and Sutton gain about 5 per carry?

Finally, if 2011 doesn't happen, everyone loses. Enjoy the moment. Worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

agreed that double trouble trumps any backfield combination if dwill walks. however, from the business part, zod is spot on that there is no way the two of them stay together for their entire careers. my whole thing is that if the front office plans on letting deangelo walk, why not trade him now and get that vincent jackson type of wr or beast of a player that williams can net you? nobody wants him out of a panthers uniform, but if that is the end game, and it's due to the business side of the game, why not play business and get a return for him.

The Charlotte Observer's Darin Gantt indicated on Twitter Friday that the Panthers may let DeAngelo Williams walk in 2011 free agency.

It's hard to fathom at first glance, but the Panthers are well stocked in the backfield (Jonathan Stewart, Tyrell Sutton, Mike Goodson) and have quite a few impending free agents whose extensions may take precedence. If D-Willy made it to free agency, he could theoretically become the highest paid running back in football. He's probably hoping for the opportunity.

Let's see

Invest 2 first round picks in RBs to split the load and extend both careers, then let one walk with plenty of mileage left, giving the benefits to another team. I don't see it happening.

And Bear bows suck.
