The Giants defense

I didn't see the bills vs panther game. Perry's defense is supposed to be a "bend, but don't break" defense that forces turnovers.

seems like a whole lot of bending without breaking.

Our defense will neither bend, nor break this year. Meeks defensive style was supposed to be a bend no break, but I think it has changed into "where the hell do you think you're going?" defense

Jake threw three interceptions, all of which came early on drives. Kenny Moore fumbled. We missed two field goals. And we passed 44 times.

Two points here:

First, you can blame Jake Delhomme for all our problems last year, and a lot of you will, or you can look at the bigger picture. Williams averaged 5.6 yards per carry, but only got 16 of them. Stewart got 7 carries. We punted the ball eight times, and two of our drives ended on downs (one was at the half).

Second, Jake is no longer here. The Giants have different personnel. Are they suited to the Tampa-2? Who's their MLB? What are their DTs like?

Do people still discuss football on this forum, or is it all about bashing players and coaches?

Exactly, he gave them the ball at the 18, 27 and 39 i believe all in our territory had he not the game very well may have ended in a shutout the bill had like 12o yards of TOTAL offense.

not really, jakes wildly inaccurate passes were more to blame... and he was tossing ints like beads at Marni gras last year.

not really what? I know jake was bad and I didn't see the game, but it just seemed to fit the definition of bending (a whole lot) but not breaking.

Not sure how well they are suited for the tampa2, but the #1's looked decent in preseason.

DTs - Canty was hurt last year, looks a little better. Rocky Bernard - played horrible last year, looked better this year including 2 sacks in one game. Linval Joseph - some decent flashes in thepreseason, no big push up front against the #1's on other teams. Barry Cofield stout against the run, not big on the pash rush, holds position well (saints were trying to trade for them. Sometimes Tuck plays DT.

Goff is the middle linebacker, started all camp and preseason. Lights people up, is faster than Pierce (not saying a lot) he is an unknown for the most part. Keith Bulluck might play some MLB on third down.

I think the panther d will be pretty darn good, but based more on last year than the preseason which doesn't mean much.

There are things you can take from the pre-season that are reasonable, example the titans (considered by many to have the league's best o-line) Gave up 4 sacks to our first string defensive line... without blitzing. (while missing no starters)

No most folks don't discuss football anymore. Too busy finding clip art to download.

As to your question, we moved the ball very easily against Buffalo but didn't sustain drives. The turnovers in our end of the field also contributed to us abandoning the running game for the passing game. The longest drive they had all day was 55 yards. We also had pretty good success throwing the ball and decent success running. We had 115 yards running and 325 passing. And the only touchdown we had was a Williams run from 15 yards out. Smith had 100 yards, Barnidge 77, even Williams had 50 receiving.

The problem was not moving the ball it was scoring points. And honestly I think we helped them tremendously. The Bills defense was awful that day, but our scoring offense was worse.

If they are as porous as the Bills were, we win this one easily.

The Bills game was one we should have won going away,a give ne game if i ever saw one.

Then we would have finished at 9-7.just saying.

They're running more of a bend don't break like we did with Trgo, with some cover 2 sprinkled in, according to some of their fans.

We struggled with a new D early last season and we have much better personnel, particularly in the back 7.

Their LB's are average at very best, so I think there will be plenty of opportunities to move the ball as long as we don't shoot ourselves in the foot.
