Why is nobody excited?!?

The Question

Recommended Posts

Well... it might be because we're all collectively holding our breath.

The Giants game is a test. It's a test to see if our problems in the Preseason with offense, were just preseason issues, and not a symptom of something seriously wrong. It's a test to see if our defense is really as good as they seemed. It's a test to see if by going with a "youth movement" will pay out now, or later.

If we pull off a convincing win Sunday, I think you'll see the excitement level rise dramatically. If we flounder and fail, we'll all be grim in wondering if Richardson and the Front Office really did throw away our season to save money or as a ploy to prepare for a lockout next year.

Every game is a test. We could get shut out Sunday, and then put 30 on the board against Tampa. Fwiw, I don't think a convincing win will be a harbinger of things to come any more than a convincing loss will ruin the season.

We have a very young team, and a team that has a lot to learn. If they learn fast, then we could have a shot at the playoffs. If not, then it could be a long year.

Every game is not a test. There are meaningless games and fluke games. For example... last year, when New Orleans lost to us on week 16... neither our team, or theirs was tested in any way, and it had no impact on our results or theirs in the playoffs.

Also, you are underestimating the importance of a first regular season game. There is momentum in that first start that plays a big part of the regular season results.

Some people say week 1 doesn’t matter and in some extent I can agree a lot of team make the playoffs after losing their first game heck some have made it with even a 0-3 record but, if you’re talking about winning it all, week 1 really matters. Superbowl winners have a 36-7-1 week 1 record so not to put pressure but it your team loses this week it has a 15% chance of winning the Superbowl not great odds to start the season.

I haven't had a chance to check the actual stats yet... but this sounds correct to me.

So... yes... this game is important. Very important... to not only establish this team's identity, but set a tone for weeks to come.

In 2 days we're going to head into the Gina's shiny new stadium and paint it in Eli's blood and all I see are posts about the 96 panthers and how Smith should have been the old spice guy?

I'm disappointed :(

One reason is that when everyone gets excited (see 2004, 2006,2009) we usually end up with our heads in the sand. I like to keep optimism that we won't go down with a fight no matter what, but no one here can say they have never been hurt before lol.

I used to get all stir fire crazy about the beginning of the season. That all stopped in 2001, first game really means nothing lol.
