One Thing To Remember About This Game

I didn't watch. Did anybody bring up the failed Government levees? Or was it all Katrina's fault?

Or the $186.5 million dollars paid to the Saints owner Benson just to keep the Saints in New Orleans and playing in a half filled Superdome.

I remember watching the pre hurracane Katrina coverage and they said the cost of levees to handle a catagory 3+ was around $200 million but New Orleans didn't have the money for them. Instantly I thought of the city's agreement with Benson. All those lives, all those displaced families and destroyed infrastructure just to keep a football team in town who couldn't fill up half the Dome.

Football doesn't rebuild destroyed homes

Football doesn't heal the sick

Football doesn't feed the poor

the NFL did not solve the problems of Hurricane Katrina.

Nor the problems of rebuilding a city that is under sea-level (and still sinking) that is directly in hurricane alley.

Was it the NFL's job to solve the problems caused by Katrina?

Listen, I'm as tired of hearing about Katrina as anyone else, but I don't think anyone is suggesting that the NFL fixed any of those problems. What the Saints did was give a whole city and region something to hope for when there seemed no hope to be found.

I hate hearing about Katrina, too, but this thread is silly.

Something to hope for? The Saints sucked up until last year. Hell, they sucked last year.

Come on Dockery, I hate them too, but you've got to admit they've been on the upswing post-Katrina.

The Saints made it into the NFC Championship game in 2006. In 2007 and 2008 they finished 7-9 and 8-8 respectively, but their offense was such that you could never really count them out of games. They had hope.

Are you really saying the Super Bowl champions sucked last year? I guess 31 teams in the league sucked that much harder.

I can't believe I'm defending the Saints here.

Your an idiot if you think the Saints suck, they are the best team now until someone knocks them off which will happen this year hopefully.

I always hoped when Brees became a free agent from SD that the Panthers would have picked him up, we would be a completely different team now if we had and the Saints would not have won the Super Bowl. Win/Win

Back to the Hurricane thing, I am tired of hearing about it too but I also realize what a devastating hurricane it was and that people are still homeless and suffering because of it. Yeah probably not a good idea to build a city below sea level and then due a piss poor job of making sure it wouldn't flood but then again a lot of people and children suffered because of someone else's stupidity. If it makes them feel better about their situation (that the Saints won it all) then so be it.
