Yeah... no.

That's why I said, depending where you are on the console cycle. So a PC capable of running a game at the same quality as 360 or PS3 when they came out would cost around $2000. The same will likely be true when the next generation of consoles is released. It is less right now as we are 5 years into the current console generation. And it doesn't count if you're running a game with the graphics on the lowest setting and it looks like poo.

I still don't agree.

I might take the time to compare them to the prices of equivalent hardware when they came out later, but as a general rule, if you're building a $2000 PC you're going overboard.

Minus a monitor the price can be pretty low. If you already have a capable case (I used a 1994 Gateway case for the longest time) then you're even further ahead of the curve. Hell, I still have the power supply I used on my last build (3 years ago).

If you want to start from the ground up, then count in a nice 720p TV along with the console.

When it comes down to it, the PC is a much more flexible platform that gives you more options and control as you can do... well... anything to it. You could create your own operating system or just post on this website, or you could play games.

Consoles offer a much more fluid gaming experience but that's pretty much it. Certain games also play better on consoles due to both this and their focus on controllers (games on consoles are focused around the controller which is better for some types of games).

The best advice? If you can afford a decent gaming PC and a console, get both.
