England or Australia?

Yeah I've been over to the international studies dept. Melissa Watkins is my advisor for this, she's been to both places. She's basically saying their both great. I'd honestly like to apply for both since it would give me more time but it cost me some money haha. Which she says is not worth doing anyway.

Melissa is great! No way anybody in the office will try and talk you out of one place in favor of another. Have you used the resource center they have in the office? Maybe that'd be helpful.

Also, not sure about the scholarship process for the Spring Semester, but has the deadline passed for the UNCC Study Abroad scholarship?

Now that is a nutty town. Look forward to hearing your experiences

That's what I've heard.. I'm in no way averse to alternative lifestyles or homosexuals.. and as I understand it Brighton is a sort of Bohemian town with a large gay population.

Shall be interesting, indeed. But I'm looking forward to it.

that about sums it up. the wildlife in australia is second to none... its a wild (and sometimes dangerous) place.

fun story: i spent a week in the wollemi wilderness of australia, lived in a secluded cabin in the middle of the mountains... every night as soon as i turned the light off, spiders would come crawling literally out of the woodwork and all over everything. i'd wake up to a bite on the arm and feel a half dozen scurry off of my body when i sat up. eventually i realized i'd either sleep and get bitten, or just wouldn't sleep... not much of a choice. i had a bit of arachnophobia before australia... that cured me of it once and for all.

or you could go to england and tell stories about afternoon tea. :bigear:

Oh. Hell. No.

I won't sleep for a week now.

Tough call.

Outdoorsy warm weathery type- Oz

Potential for Euro whirlwind tour and awesome nightlife and historical stuff- UK

You make the call. I've been to the UK already so I'd go Oz, but you can't go wrong either way. Don't let 'em fool you. Hot chicks abound everywhere, and you will be surprised at the decrease in fatassery in both locations.

I spent a summer studying abroad in London in 2002. It was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. I was able to travel relatively affordably all around Europe on the weekends, meeting up with friends in Rennes, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam.

I've never been to Australia so I can't compare the two but like others have said, you probably can't go wrong. If you have any friends that are also studying abroad in either Europe or Australia I would factor that into your decision. You'll make a ton of new friends while you're over there, but it was nice to be able to hop on a train and in a few short hours I was walking around Amsterdam with two of my good friends. I would say the same even if they wre just acquantances from back home. There will be a point in time in your trip where you'll wish you had access to that level of familiarity, so again, consider whether or not you know anyone else in Europe or Australia.

To this affect, OBC, if you're doing the exchange program through UNCC to Kingston, you can bet your ass that there will be a bunch of other UNCC students there with you.

When we had our pre-departure orientation near the end of the Spring semester, everyone had to introduce themselves and say where they were going and Kingston was far and away the most popular destination.

  • 7 months later...

Hey guys sorry to bump an old thread but I thought I would give an update.

I actually decided to stay in Charlotte for the spring semester but I have made plans to go to Wollongong University in New South Wales over the summer. I'm going though UNC Wilmington and apparently I'm the only guy going in our group ;)
