Isn't Smith the teams player union representative as well? While Both D Wil and Moore come of as great guys personality wise, they are pretty soft spoken. As a captain I think Smith can use his loud in your face personality to motivate and fire up these young guys.

Smith has not been a captain the last couple years

We all know why he wasn't captain those years. But the team has changed dramatically this off-season which forces someone who wants to be considered in the ranks of elite like smitty to step up. Has anyone seen him on the sidelines pumpin his offense up. Gotta luv it!

You're right, his name should have been in the discussion as well. Who knows, it might've been. Williams is a positive guy who has earned the respect of the team with his actions on and off the field (one would think).

Also when Jstew, Goodson, and Sutton came around Dwill stepped up and was a teacher and leader for them. Something we can say Smith will never be. I love Smith and his chip on the shoulder attitude but with that come a price and that price is he is not a very good teacher or leader.

Brayton obviously is very underrated by our own fans and media but the players get it. Brayton was second in sacks last year and first in tackles among defensive linemen. He has a great motor, never gives up and is the recognized leader on the defensive line.

He is a captain because players recognize him as a leader off and on the field. I know everyone gets excited by Hardy- me included. But Brayton is as valuable or more than any one else on the defensive line. He isn't sexy or a sack machine but he gets the job done every week and is the most consistent guy we have on the line.

And he WANTED to be here. He was vocal about wanting to stay. That means alot towards being a good teammate.

Kalil is more of a leader than Gross. DW is more of a leader than Smith. Moore has become more of a leader than Smith, Gross. Nobody is a better leader than Kasay except maybe Beason.

seeing as how the players see each other for who they really are inside the locker room and we're just outsiders looking in, you would think they would know who is leadership material and who isn't.
