Wonder where he got his idea from? I take cashiers cheques.

For all the kids with new jobs, several have another wave of kids behind them. And for all the guys they've groomed, pay day is coming soon for a lot of them at once.

Quarterback Matt Moore was given the starting job but immediately was put on notice with the drafting of Jimmy Clausen and Tony Pike. Moore enters a contract year, making quarterback a situation to watch.

It's similar to the running back situation, where DeAngelo Williams has one year left but Jonathan Stewart is signed through 2012.

Center Ryan Kalil's contract is the only offensive lineman's up after this year, but he's in line for a huge deal.

On defense, five of the nine linemen are in some degree of contract years, and a sixth (defensive end Tyler Brayton) might as well be.

Injured linebacker Thomas Davis and cornerback Richard Marshall would have been unrestricted free agents this offseason but for rules that came into play with the league's uncapped year.

That's left them with 24 players whose deals will expire after this season, and at least five potentially big ones.

The last time the Panthers had this much work was entering the 2009 offseason. They worked mega-extensions with cornerback Chris Gamble the previous November and left tackle Jordan Gross at the deadline, enabling them to keep Peppers with the franchise tag.

But even though those were three huge-money deals, the next offseason potentially could dwarf it.

For all the offseason change, only two departed players appear poised to make a significant impact on their new teams - Cleveland quarterback Jake Delhomme and Chicago defensive end Julius Peppers. The rest are either looking for work or playing complementary roles with new teams.

I've been saying this for a while now. With all due respect to the guys we cut, they weren't and bunch of all-world talent. Most of the guys taking their spot are a combination of, younger/better/cheaper/have more potential or all of the above.

so i guess we're just destined for failure this season because we have sooooo many unknowns. Matt Moore is gonna throw 7 TDs and 19 INTs. j-stew and DW are both gonna break their legs, and we'll end up with Goodson only rushing for 300yds.... while Steve Smith struggles and only puts up 400 yds and 2 TDs. and our defense, don't get me started... worst defense in the league! Jon Beason will finally show his true "scrub" colors.

:beatdeadhorse5: :lurk5:

i hate the media and how they never show the Cardiac Cats any respect. Steve Smith is gonna have to let 'em know what the rules and regulations of the game are, once again, this season... which is simply 89, bottom line.

Oh give me a break! I lol every time you guys think the Observer steals ideas from here. I doubt most of them even read this silly board (or the other Panther boards), and as sports writers, there's a pretty decent chance they can think about the same stuff we fans talk about here.

You'd be wrong. Most have told me they do read it.

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
