The Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady(notes) are close to a three-year, $58 million extension, according to the Boston Herald.

Brady would make $19.3 million per season under terms of the deal; however, according to ESPN.com, reports of the deal are "inaccurate." The $19.3 million would put Brady ahead of the $16.3 million Colts quarterback Peyton Manning(notes) is scheduled to earn this season, but Manning is also in the final year of his deal. Colts owner Jim Irsay said last month that his goal is to make Manning the highest-paid player with his new contract.
