Panther players who will need to be signed this offseason

So with the season fixing to start I was curious to see who was in the last year of their contract. Who would need to be resigned before next season. Yes I am that bored.

Biggest thing I noticed was deangelo and Kalil are both at the end of their contracts. Need to resign both ASAP. Second thing I noticed our Defensive tackles are all playing for a job next year which will make them hungry. Both Rosario and King are in their last year as is Anderson and

Thomas Davis.

Hmmm...1st thing we need to do is 1.) extend Beason and 2.) re-sign Kalil.

After that, it gets a bit tricky.

I think we try to 3.) re-sign D-Will after that. He's a fan favorite, very productive, and has stepped up as a leader.

I put Matt Moore, Richard Marshall, and Charles Johnson in the same category. Unless they breakout huge, I think we let them go.

If our defense is top 5 this year, I can see us letting Thomas Davis go even though I would be extremely sad.

4.) Re-sign either King or Rosario(or both). I would prefer Rosario as our #2 TE with Barnidge starting

5.) Re-sign the DT that plays the best (out of E. Johnson, Leonard, and Landri)

I agree with OP. Kalil is a must sign and I think D-wil will probably get resigned cause he is a leader, a great player and a favorite in the locker room and among the fans. Only way I see we not resigning him is if Goodson tears it up or D-will gets injured.

For every other player its really going to depend on preformance. I think a lot of them will be resigned as Panthers like to keep good players.

Richard Marshall may want to test the waters as he did this year. I'm also betting we don't keep every one of those DTs with Neblett up and coming, along with the fact that I could see us adressing that position in the draft.

Jeff King and Rosario are very interesting as I'm not sure if we keep them both?

Thomas Davis is another big question mark. I hope the guy proves he can stay healthy.

this word for word. Although who knows we might be able to get TD for a little cheaper than we would have been and I would certainly be willing to take a gamble on him

agreed. i've said it many times, though, we won't have a problem re-signing williams. we have plenty of cap space to pull that of and with us starting clausen before too long (or even with matt moore at the helm) we'll need a big time run game capable of running the ball 550-600 times. we need williams and stewart. i can't see williams not wanting to stay around here with stewart. that will be an easy signing, imo.

Some interesting reading in that.

Our defensive secondary is here to stay for the next couple of seasons

Our depth at TE is gone in two years

Having every DT as a free agent is a little...silly

Similar situation at LB

Personally there are a couple of moves that seem likely.

1. Kalil being signed - Gross & Wharton have both been given sizeable contracts in the past so the FO obviously value continuity on the line

2. Beason will be extended and Davis let go - Beason is obviously the leader of the entire team, however moving him to the Will makes Davis obsolete. If they were confident in him returning, Beason would not be moving positions. However Davis 'could' be brought back if teams run scared of his knee injuries, which after the Morgan troubles, is possibly what we should

3. One of Rosario & King are likely gone, whoever is prepared to sign for the cheaper deal will come back

4. Probably Charles Johnson's last season with us. With Hardy and Brown emerging, anything but a poor season from them will see Johnson surplus to requirement. However let's wait on their performances first, as they could bomb. Still I reckon the FO would gamble on their potential. Obviously injury dictates a lot here (Hardy has had trouble sin the past).

5. DWill likely gets the tag. Not sure if we keep him though. With Sutton reputedly fancied outside of this team and us turning down a trade, we obviously want to hang on to them all for a reason. Not sure we hand out a huge multi year deal with that amount of depth. It's just doesn't make financial sense...

6. The DT position will only look the same if they all play really average. If they play lights out, then we will not justify extending them all.

Even if Johnson has a average year I could see us re-signing him.He is good depth and can play DT and DE.

Of course he is, but unless he accepts a pretty average to minimal 3-4 year deal, we will be investing a fair wedge in a player that is looking to be a depth player.

You simply do not extend depth players with multi year deals, which at his age and his soon to be starting experience, will be thrown at him by other teams in need of DEs. The depth should come from new draft picks. If he turns out to be the best DE in football, then we have a conundrum on our hands...
