Carter comes from a soccer background, but has focused on kicking the football....

Most of the kickoffs I saw were indeed in the endzone and probably more than a few were taken out when they would have been downed as touchbacks in the regular season. You will always have more ill-advised kickoff returns in the pre-season...players trying to make a name for themselves.

Anyway, the kid can kick and I hope that translates into touchbacks. With the ball-control, field position game we play, touchbacks go a long way towards controlling the clock and field position. Considering how far behind the eight ball we are projected to be, this is a good gamble. Hey, if it doesn't work out there are always remedies to try out as the season progresses.

Also, he kicked off at Pittsburgh as one of his four starts, which is notorious for being the toughest field for long kicks.
